Melinda | 45 comments I really enjoy the writing but I’m starting to feel the book is dragging on. It’s pretty boring. I’m silently screaming at Alfred and Grace’s so called relationship. Years of sweetheart letters and once a year get togethers without even linking arms yet while walking. Just tell her how you feel already, Alfred. I was shocked at Emmeline’s acting career. Where and how did she meet that guy while being secluded at Riverton? I feel these vignettes of life are just filler. I’m also wondering how Grace who is in her 90’s can remember things from 75 years ago so clearly. The story to me would be more realistic without these vignettes. I can understand how Grace would remember things leading up to the main event. Now onto part four. I’m determined to finish this book because of the writing and I’m on pins and needles as to the ending. I have my suspicions as to what really happened.

Elizabeth Meadows (lizziefaye) | 424 comments Melinda I listened to this section this morning and I had similar feelings about lots of it. I didn't necessarily think it dragged, but I am definitely ready for all the reveals.
I don't know how Emmeline got involved with that guy, but you know when people are determined to make bad choices it's difficult to stop them.

Catherine Pinkett | 23 comments I don't think this book as her debut is as well written as others I have read. She gets her split timelines more organised in future books.
I don't like how she swaps times within the same chapter.
I think the plot is interesting but I agree at times it's very slow and some unecessary fluff.
It's clear Albert has pets from the war although not recognised in those days. I don't think he's stable enough for her.
Catherine.
