Hello there! I am seeking people who would be interested in receiving ARC copies of my Kindle book 'The Duke's Reluctant Lady'. I will admit my title is just slightly misleading...my novel is just on the cusp between Georgian and Regency eras. :) that said, while it's not the exhaustively researched work of Georgette Heyer (though I love her books) and uses more accessible language (though you certainly won't see any 'okay's or 'omg's) I do make an effort to make the historical setting as vivid and tangible as possible, and while I see this as a fairly 'conventional' romance I hope I have made it interesting with fleshed out characters and interesting dynamics. There are no explicit scenes, no cheating, and no cliffhangers. Here is a description of the novel, which is around 60,000 words:
'The Duke's Reluctant Lady' is about Lady Bex, the daughter of the Earl of Worthall and still unmarried at twenty years old, by her own design. Bex plans to stay at Worthall House forever, taking care of her younger sister, the teenage Rosanna, whose delicate health, dazed forgetfulness, and habit of seeing what isn't there means she shall never marry. For her entire life, Bex has been wholly devoted to caring for and protecting her younger sister. When her father informs her that he is considering her marital prospects, her dream of a secluded spinster life is threatened, but fortunately Bex has just met her brother's best friend, the Duke of Chalstone, and offers him an arrangement which could benefit both of them.
Christian became the Duke of Chalstone before he was a year old, but until he reached the age of majority four years ago, his estate was controlled by his stepfather, the Marquess of Thornton, a spiteful and greedy man who allowed his ward's whole inheritance to go to rot, while giving Christian a miserable and cruel childhood, rife with beatings and humiliation. Though Christian has now labored to repair his fortunes, his upbringing left him without the connections he needs amongst the high circles of English society. So while there is some dislike between him and Bex, when she proposes that he pretend to court her for the London season, he is happy to accept.
A false engagement allowed Bex to ward off potential suitors and gives Christian entry into London society, which he will need as the Marquess of Thornton refuses to give up tormenting him and Chalstone both. As the two grow closer, there is something undeniable between them, but Bex harbors a secret sorrow which makes her stubbornly refuse happiness at every turn, while Christian is wary of anything that can be called love, sure that his touch would poison it. Both will have much to overcome before they can realize their happiness lies with one another.
I have PDF copies available, so feel free to PM me, comment in this thread for me to PM you, or email me at marietta.blackburn.author@gmail.com for your ARC copy. The book is also available on Kindle Unlimited, if you have that but would still be interested in checking it out.
Thanks for reading my post! PS: if you also post historical Kindle Regencyish romance novels and you are interested in swapping ARCs, I am also up for that!
