Oh shit...

"How far will Stephanie Plum go to protect the one person who means the most to her? The stakes have never been higher in this latest adventure from #1 New York Times bestselling author Janet Evanovich.

Grandma Mazur, Stephanie Plum’s favorite family member and occasional partner in crime, has decided to get married again – this time to a local gangster named Jimmy Rosolli. If Stephanie has her doubts about this marriage, she doesn’t have to worry for long, because the groom drops dead of a heart attack 45 minutes after saying, “I do.”

A sad day for Grandma Mazur turns into something far more dangerous when Jimmy’s former “business partners” are convinced that his new widow is keeping the keys to a financial windfall all to herself. But the one thing these wise guys didn’t count on was the widow’s bounty hunter granddaughter, who’ll do anything to save her.

Stephanie Plum has made a career of tracking down bad guys, but this time some of the worst people in all of New Jersey are coming after the most important person in her life – and she’s the only thing standing in their way."

With lots of Grandma Mazur, it's sure to be a riot! And emotional.

Brittany | 1 comments I thought this book was much better than the last several have been. The characters felt like they had more depth in this one. I was glad to not have Diesel or Wulf brought back into the books this time. I prefer them in the Wicked Series (the Plum novellas aren't my favorites).
Mild Spoiler:

I loved the little joke in the beginning where Stephanie says she's 56 years old (a little nod to how old she'd actually be if she had aged the way the rest of us do).

Anita (anitanodiva) | 332 comments I got the e-book and audio yesterday. I raced through the book I was currently reading, a not very interesting historical-romance, in order to start 26 today.

Wonderful, entertaining and laugh out loud funny
My Review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Crystal-Rain Love (crystalrainlove) | 29 comments I finally got it yesterday and read in 3 hours. The age-joke was hilarious. Did anyone else feel like Janet wrote this after reading a ton of reviews? There was the age joke, then she actually made Stephanie less bumbling. I mean, there was the one FTA that kept giving her trouble but she snagged some pretty quick.
Also, this makes two books in a row Steph has pointed out Ranger's marriage material.
The biggest surprise to me was getting to the end and seeing the title of the next book. I know it has to be hard coming up with number-themed titles, in numerical order no less, but to just drop that after 26 books?
It kind of feels like maybe she's headed toward wrapping things up.

Anita (anitanodiva) | 332 comments I caught the age joke too and thought it was wonderful. Janet maybe reading reviews, but this book has been very well received. 26 is not the first book where Steph questions her career path. I just finished 11 and she had the same doubts in that book. I don't think she is seriously going to drop the numbers, why mess with a good thing?

Crystal-Rain Love (crystalrainlove) | 29 comments She confirmed on Twitter she is dropping the numbers because it is too difficult coming up with titles including the number. However, the number will still be on the covers.
It can be hard coming up with titles when you're stuck to a theme, and hers has got to be one of the hardest considering the series length. I will miss them, just because we are so used to them.

The scene where Stephanie comments on Ranger being marriage material was a nice little nugget, but I was disappointed by the lack of meaningful interaction with Ranger. It seems like his only purpose is to provide cars and bodyguards.

Also, one thing didn't make any sense to me - Ranger provides necklaces with trackers in them to Stephanie and Grandma Mazur, but then they find out that the trackers don't work. Unless I missed something, it's never explained why 1) Ranger's men didn't figure out themselves that the trackers don't work, or 2) why they don't work. They were just never mentioned again. What was the purpose of including the necklaces if they didn't have any impact on the story?

Crystal-Rain Love (crystalrainlove) | 29 comments I think it was meaningful when Ranger brought her home near the end and asked if she wanted him to stay. I forget the actual words, but she said something about she was too tired she'd probably just sleep, or something like that and he said something along the lines of "I might not care." I took that scene as he wasn't there for sex. He wanted to stay with her to make sure she was safe, but he wasn't going to push himself on her. I'm hoping for more scenes where she notices his marriage material, and hopefully appreciates and acts on it. :)

As for the trackers in the necklaces, I think it was a plot device to make Stephanie go from feeling safe and watched over to not as safe, and raise the stakes when she goes missing. They may not have been mentioned again because the story continues in #27, or she might have just dropped them because she did what she wanted with them by giving Steph that extra layer of protection and then taking it away.
