Pratik Deshpande | 586 comments The first draft of my first novel truth underneath :) i was like.. whaaaaaattttttttttttt.. i mean there is no end to the level of 'worst'.. its the first work.. no experience and nothing.. imagine what a 19 year old would end up writing :)

Neil D'Silva Krishna Sruthi wrote: "The Fountainhead. Tried reading it thrice, but just couldn't take it. I really want to know why it's so hyped and why so many swear by it, so I might just try again."

The payback of The Fountainhead comes in its third act. That's when you see a fantastic culmination of everything that was building up so far. I struggled reading parts of it the first time, but when I neared the end, I was simply bowled over by its brilliance. Maybe you should give it another try.

Important thread for readers :P The following are a few books I didn't like or just plainly horrible
1. 50 Shades [10 pages and decided against reading it]
2. Krishna Key/ Rozabal line [Completed the book.. But swore at my decision to pick it up]
3. The English Patient [Horrible Read for a Booker winner]
4. Great Expectations [Just too damn slow]
5. Bangkok Eight [Was hoping to read the John burdett series after much reco. Dropped the author after 1 book]
6. Atlas Shrugged [Was overwhelmed by the size and dropped once. Hoping to pick up again!]

E.T. | 549 comments These are a few famous books which i found difficult to complete
1) The Diary of Anne Frank - too boring
2) Midnight's Children - tried thrice, even reached halfway once. Infact i still fear Booker winners...
3) The Lord of the Rings - tried thrice, somehow couldnt feel interested. Nothing to do with its length.
4) Coma by Robin Cook - Wonder how non-medical ppl could manage to read it !
Also, i wonder if length had something to do with many not being able to read Fountainhead/Atlas shrugged. I loved both the books.

Fathima Fara (fathimafara) | 38 comments God of Small Things

I tried twice but couldn't read more than half. It was so damn boring and high vernacular usage.

message 63: by Manveer (new)

Manveer (manveerssj4) | 511 comments I'll put these in two categories. I can only list the ones I read recently or strike my mind. Others have been thankfully forgotten to never come up again.

1) Books I couldn't finish
The Oath of the Vayuputras (Couldn't complete, after having dragged myself through the first book)
The Body in the Library (Found this Agatha Christie book lying around in my mother's collection. My first and the last by the author. I didn't like the book. I know I should read her other books, but I just haven't)
Arthas: Rise of the Lich King (This is just a brilliant video game saga rewritten in a horrible manner)
Life of Pi

2)Book people say are great, but I didn't like them much.
Ender's Game
Eleanor and Park
The Alchemist
Twilight
Chetan Bhagat stuff, most of it.

message 73: by Jaya (new)

Jaya | 5078 comments Gone with the Wind much as i loved rhett butler, scarlett spoiled it for me. Though i read this book some 10 odd years back i seem to loathe it with a vengeance.
And recently i tried to read The French Lieutenant's Woman couldn't really appreciate it :-/

message 74: by Anam (new)

Anam (anammshaikhh) Just Friends by Sumrit Sahi.

message 76: by Harsh (new)

Harsh Kumar (harshkumar) | 24 comments There are no worst books.
Books in my opinion cannot be worst.
They might be horrible or bad or boring and dull according to you, but for many others the same book which you deem pathetic, are the best.
Worst books eh ? Well every book has something to offer you. Some knowledge through the medium of a story or entertainment and what not.
If you cannot grasp its richness, you can move on and call it boring because it wasn't meant for you.

That's just my opinion
I gave up on a few books as well such as
Ghost Story - Peter Straub
House by the churchyard - Joseph Sheridan le fanu
Complete Works - Lord Byron

Shakti Singh Rathore (rathoreshakti) 1) Lord of the flies
2) Notes from the underground
3) Moby Dick
4) notes from the underground
5) Becoming

Shakti Singh Rathore (rathoreshakti) These are from this year.

message 79: by Nidhi (new)

Nidhi Kumari Hi friends , it’s hilarious but above mentioned books are all my favourites. I hated the Vinci code, Krishna key, all of Chetan Bhagat and continent of Circe by Amitav ghosh, I still wonder why author took so much pain to create a book so loathsome. No offence intended. Please forgive me for not liking Bhagat and brown.

The Yellow Wallpaper is brilliantly written story.

Hrishabh Chaudhary (hrishabhchaudhary) | 0 comments The worst book I came across is Blindness by Jose Saramago(Nobel laureate), which is supposed to be a great book but it contains such gruesome and disturbing scenes that I just couldn't finish it. I suggest this book to anyone wanting to test their emotional endurance.

I've read only The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and I hated it so much back then that I never picked up another of his books!

Probably not the worst book I ever read though. That would be Fifty Shades of Grey that I abandoned shortly after picking it up.

message 86: by Conscientia (last edited Sep 25, 2019 03:27AM) (new)

Conscientia | 37 comments Worst books that I have ever read are written by Chetan Bhagat. Appallingly ridiculous. He leads from the front followed by Paulo Coelho (exception being The Alchemist)

message 87: by Palash (new)

Palash (naikon) | 19 comments I am glad to see the disdain towards The Alchemist. I thinks it's one of the most overrated books of present time. Other than Alchemist, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was a very difficult read for me.
