Just Another Final Girl Review (Brittany) Levely-Connolly (justanotherfinalgirlreviews) | 9 comments Kara the extended stand got me hooked on post apocalyptic fiction. That is a great one to read! Also I never read the shorter one

Jessica | 26 comments Carrie

I just started reading King this year and his first ever book published just so happened to be where I started! It was a very happy coincidence.

message 205: by Ricardo (new)

Ricardo Moreno Mauro | 18 comments My first SK was "thinner", not that long ago. I really like it. Later on I knew there was a movie. So far I have read many, and the last one was "Carrie".

message 206: by Rik (new)

Rik Ty | 21 comments My first one was the original paperback Carrie. My sister had it. I didn't know who Stephen King was. I was just a kid using the subway on a summer job. I remember it made me feel a little un-clean — with all its fake articles about stones from the sky and stuff. A few years later I found Salem's Lot, Night Shift, The Shining and The Stand, and I became a lifelong fan.

message 207: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa Nightingale Christine was my first Stephen King book. I have re-read it many times since because it still one of my favourites.

message 208: by Andie (new)

Andie The stand! Then bag of bones, then all the rest!

message 209: by Shelton (new)

Shelton Holt (sheltonholt) | 2 comments My first book of his that I read was The Outsider. Due to the fact that I'm a speed-reader, I've already read a lot of his others ones (I read It in 6 days), and I loved them so much. I can't wait to read the rest of his!

message 210: by Caitlin (new)

Caitlin | 8 comments Carrie! When I was about 14

Wow, you read the Outsider in 6 days. That was a good book, but thick !

message 212: by Richard (new)

Richard Dietz | 147 comments Can't remember the first Stephen King book I read. Maybe the Stand or Desperation?

On another point, has anyone read "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon"? Not really horror but you basically take a journey in the woods with a lost little girl. You imagine what it might be like to be in that situation. Interesting read for sure.

message 213: by Braydon (new)

Braydon Lindsell | 1 comments Mine was IT. I started high and it's still one of my favourite books.

message 214: by Julia (new)

Julia R | 2 comments Mine was actually "Firestarter." I was fairly young when I read it, but I remember being super interested in the split perspective style of writing he uses in his books. Not only that, but his books have been kind of a big thing in my family going back from my grandfather to my mother, then down to me. My mom still raves about the "Dark Tower" series, although I have yet to read that. I want to get the full experience, so I'm trying to get through some of his earlier things first.

message 215: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 10 comments Pretty sure mine was Needful Things, at too young of an age (but isn't that the case for all of us King aficionados?)

message 216: by Bob (new)

Bob Hollander | 4 comments I read Carrie when first published and read everyone since then

message 217: by Bo (new)

Bo | 44 comments I think mine was 'Salme's Lot. Scared the hell out of me.

message 218: by Elena (new)

Elena ☆ The Shining, I think I was thirteen, I was scared to death of the woman in the tub

message 219: by Joanaaa (new)

Joanaaa | 1 comments Mine was the green mile and I loved it!!

message 220: by Jason (new)

Jason Young | 7 comments Night Shift I believe. Salem's Lot shortly after.

message 221: by Rusty (new)

Rusty Berr | 13 comments "Different Seasons".

message 222: by Erika (last edited Sep 09, 2023 05:19AM) (new)

Erika | 475 comments I tried to read IT in high school but I didn't finish so I don't count it. I was a horror film fan from a young age and I've probably seen everything based on a King story (many more than once)...but I can't believe I haven't read anything by him until now! (looking back there was a big period of time I didn't read much at all due to my career and such)

So, anyway, currently I'm reading Pet Semetary and I am loving it. I read over 200 pages in two days and of course the imagery I am getting matches the movie quite a bit but it's a whole different experience! (as a kid I remember getting absolutely horrified at the scene with Rachel's sister Zelda!!)

message 223: by Knight (new)

Knight | 9 comments The Outsider. Just started reading from him I think last year

message 224: by Mariga (new)

Mariga Temple-West | 38 comments Different Seasons, my first and last Stephen King book. "Apt Pupil"... to this day I have not recovered from that story!

message 225: by Richard (new)

Richard Dietz | 147 comments I think it was either "Desperation" or "Insomnia". Both good stories.

Silver.⋆。⋆☂˚。⋆。˚☽˚。⋆. (silvermoonlitforest) | 1 comments Mine was Salem's Lot in the Fifth grade and I've been hooked ever since

message 227: by Erika (new)

Erika | 475 comments Actually, I made a mistake lol I was going through my bookshelf and found Gunslinger. I read that probably about 8 years ago(?) and remember struggling with it (got confused with plot and characters) but I did finish it. So, technically that was my first full King read.

message 228: by Yoli (new)

Yoli The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon

its really different from most of his books and I loved it . The "horror" aspect wasnt about any thing supernatural it was just a simple idea. A little girl lost in the woods and having ti fend for herself. To me its still one of my favorites of his I think that theres something ti be said for the simple horrors that could happen to anyone. My next favorite would have to be Children of the Corn.

message 229: by Abigail (new)

Abigail | 30 comments Nightmares and Dreamscapes! I was in middle school and was just starting to get into horror and my dad lent me his worn copy to see if I would like more of King's works. And I never looked back!

message 230: by Fatman (new)

Fatman | 17 comments Probably The Talisman... which I didn't even like that much at the time. I only started reading King obsessively years later, in college.

message 231: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine | 18 comments I read these last year. JoyLand and then 1922.

message 232: by Aundrea (new)

Aundrea I think it was either Thinner or The Long Walk.

message 233: by MsYinry (new)

MsYinry | 22 comments Misery, it was a good first impression for me to continue reading his other works

Ayesha (Seokjin's Version) ☾ (ayereads10) | 7 comments My first King book was The Shining. Hands down one of my favorite book of all times. It is the reason that I still give a chance to Steve

message 235: by Cole (new)

Cole Maranzano | 17 comments My grandpa read Firestarter to me when I was little. I don’t think he thought I could really understand it. Buuuuut now I have a lifelong obsession with horror. Related? Perhaps.

message 236: by Steph (last edited Nov 27, 2023 02:02PM) (new)

Steph | 22 comments My writing classes had us read King on writing, and I've watched more movie adaptations than I can recall, but this year I finally read Carrie

It's one I've never watched an adaptation for.

message 237: by John (JC) (new)

John (JC) (typingturtle) | 3 comments My first Stephen King book was The Stand. While I was sitting on the couch waiting for a friend I found this book beside me. I asked if I could borrow it and the rest is history.

Had some problems with the finale but it was absolutely invigorating, would love to read it again

Good choice! I honestly think it is his best novel overall, and I've read 75% of his books.

message 241: by Jim (new)

Jim | 99 comments I think The Stand, but it may have been ’Salem’s Lot.

message 242: by Bliss (new)

Bliss Humble | 3 comments "IT" was my first Stephen King read, it scared the ever-loving shit out of me and then I had to read everything he's written.

message 243: by Fauwxx (new)

Fauwxx | 4 comments Rose Madder - I need to reread it, it’s been a while since I read it. Highly recommend.
