The Shining made me a fan. The Stand made me a believer; 'Salem's Lot was icing on the cake (especially since I wasn't allowed to watch the TV movie.) I'd seen the movie Carrie, so I let that one go for a while.

Were you actually named after Carrie, or do you just have the same name....?

This will always be in my top five favorite books by anyone. It was so tight and suspenseful, and the ability to write that with basically one setting, and one event is phenomenal.

Named.

So I searched for a copy of the "Shining" at my go-to bookstore. But, I couldn't find it. I came across "The Stand." And bought that. And, I really enjoyed it.

I was eight. I didn't understand a lot of it, but the concept of there being a library policeman TERRIFIED me. Kept sneaking dad's stephen king after that, anyway.
