The Shining when I was 12. My dad bought it when it was first published and I had to wait for him to finish it first!
The Shining. Was never a regular reader until recently. Friends and family suggested I start with Kings older novels.
Embarrassing as this is to say: it was "Mr. Mercedes". After watching "The Shining" and "Christine" movies I had decided I did not like Stephen King's books. After reading one book I understood and became a believer. His writing is superior. (His politics; not so much.)
Mine was Night Shift and it would have been back in the 80s when I was a kid. Still my favorite King book.
“It” was my first book by him. I read it as a teen and it was the first big book I couldn’t put down. I just got so attached to the characters.
"Misery" was the first one I read. Watched the movie in fifth grade and snuck it out of the high school section of my school's library in sixth grade.
My first book by him was "It" when I was a teenager. It was the first big book that I read in my life and coudn't put down. So scary and amazing! It made me start loving King from then on.
I think mine was Salem's Lot, right after watching the TV adaptation starring David Soul and James Mason.
Carrie, in 1981, caught up quickly and have read each of his books as soon as they are released ever since. I've even been known to take a vacation day to rip through one, only to read it more slowly and savor a few months later.
My first Stephen King book was The Stand and then I heard from a friend that Eye of the Dragon had some of the same characters so it was my second one.

I'll never forget. I was 12. It was 1982 and I found Cujo in the school library. I skipped class and hid to read it.
The Gunslinger. I actually have only read that by Master King
(I know, blasphemy!) BUT I’ve been a huge fan of his stories on screen. I’ve seen almost all of his films & TV shows.
Earliest memory: I remember being scared as a kid in elementary school when I snuck out of my room at night and peeked at the living room where my dad was watching Tommyknockers. I wasn’t supposed to be watching lol but I hid behind the couch peeking around at the “scary green lights” taking over the neighborhood! 😂
I’ve been a King fan since my teens. I think my first book was Needful Things read by him on cassette. I think it was 14 tapes.
Carrie. I was in 6th grade and everyone was giving my parents shit for letting me read it. I’m so glad they did 😁
I've been thinking & I read The Running Man when I was about 13, so that was probably my 1st SK book.
It was Dreamcatcher when I was 13 or so. Didn't really like it the first time I read it. Can't exactly why, but i thought it was boring. I tried reading it again a couple of years later, and absolutely loved it that time. Been a Constant Reader since ever since.

As the original Bachman book, or published as a King book? I love that story and am always a little sad it's not more well read. I'm glad it grabbed you!

I think it was this cover, but it's been many years.
It said Bachman on the cover, but I think there was something that said it was a pen name of SK. I had already seen the movie, but I thought the book was more interesting. I'd love to see a more faithful adaptation done.
THE STAND. My folks bought it for me as a vacation read (I was a young teenager at the time). I remember sitting at the pool reading it, and lots of adults kept interrupting me to say "Wow, you're so young to be reading such a big book." I never forgot that. Shouldn't we be encouraging our kids to read big books? :)

Every time I see a young person reading a book (of any size) I let out a cheer!
My first one was also The Stand. I went on to read over every year until the unabridged version came out. I've read it several times also, but the original version is best.

My first one was MISERY when I was like 15 it 16 and it scared the crap out of me. I was so afraid of the book, you know, the physical copy with the neon green cover (That’s what the german edition looked like), I had to put it under the bed because I couldn‘t sleep with it lying on my bedside table.Good times.
About to start The Green Mile. I’ve never seen the movie. Figured it would be cool to read the novel first.
My first was Pet Sematary, I didn’t read another for more than a decade for some reason, but it was The Shining, and was brilliant.
