Verity is a spy captured by the German gestapo during WWII. She gives in to torture and agrees to write an account of what she knows. The first two third of the book is the confession which is written third person style, which I found distancing. The story she writes down is more about how Verity became friends with the pilot Maddie than it is about war secrets. I found it hard to believe the gestapo would let her write this long rambling account that had nothing to do with the war. There was also a lot of information about planes and flying which I found boring. The last third of the book switches perspective and was much more interesting to me. I found most of the book a slog to get through but the last third raised my rating up to three stars. I know a lot of people loved this book but it just wasn't that interesting to me.

The plot blurbs never seemed plausible to me, and I know I don't need to read about planes and flying.
Thanks for this one. You've saved me from disappointment and annoyance.
I liked this one a bit more than you-4 stars. I just figured out, from your review by the way, that when I am reading fiction plausibility rarely comes into play. I think why is that I read so much fantasy, that unless it is a non-fiction I am not concerned with cold hard facts. Again, another reason why this group helps me grow-people noticing things that never crossed my mind in a book!
