Owl Babies is a touching story about 3 baby owls who wake up in the middle of the night and discover their mother is not in the nest. The older two of the three owls, Sarah and Percy reassure themselves that their mother will returnas she is probably gone for some food for the family while baby owl Bill repeats "I want my Mummy". The three owls step outside the nest into the deep dark wood, the owls are scared by themselves. Baby owl Sarah suggests they all share a branch together. The siblings provide each other with comfort and support in their mother's absense. The owls begin to close their eyes and wish their Mummy will return.Fortunatly their mother reutrns very shortly and the baby owls are delighted to be reunited with their mother. The books has beautiful illustrations to accompany a delightful story. This story can be used to give children a way of understanding issues that are familiar to them by putting them in a differant context. This book could be read out loud in the classroom to children at Early Years level. There are some repetitive sentances in which children can repeat and interact with the story. This is an excellent story with themes such as love, care and friendship. I would read this story to children aged 5 to 6 to help children confront fears surrounding seperation from their parents/carers. This book is skilfully written as the author writes in such a way that young children can relate to these emotions. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to introducing it to a classroom setting.
