Steph The Watcher (The Vilincia Coven #1) by Jennifer Thompson by Jennifer Thompson

Genres: YA Paranormal Romance

Description:

Vilincia has been a small town since it was founded in the early 1700’s. It was made a safe place for witches and humans to live together without knowing. It kept the 8 founding witch families that created the coven hidden from prosecution for their craft. They were protecting us all from an evil we didn’t know. When one of those founding families took to the dark side, Thomas, was burned alive with a curse placed on his family to be a watcher’s, the protector of the gods and goddesses, for all eternity. Followed by an outburst from Thomas’s son which left town founder, Adam Taylor, dead the coven survived. Then the news about the town dies back down and people start to rebuild in the town and they finally lived in peace with the normal.
Cole, third generation witch and future Celtic god, is the grandson of town the town founder. He attends the school his grandfather built, as the popular kid, for them to learn about their powers. With the other coven kids, known as the brat-lings, they are the fiercest kids in the school. However the group never fails to cater a rowdy party on campus. Cole is roommates with his best friend Benson, who is a mean looking sweet guy that love his motorcycle. With the other third generation coven kids he learns his true place in the coven is as a leader and a god.
Whitney has no idea where she came from. She lived in so many bad foster homes that when she was adopted at 16 and sent to this private school to find her place in the dance program, she hoped to find a better life. She found Cole and felt a connection right away. When she found out who he really was it explained all the powers she had and why she was given the path she had. She would always be a watcher thanks to Cole’s grandfather. She would die when he turned 18 and his soul converted to that of an immortal god. She regained her memories and knew she couldn’t continue to fall for him. It was so hard though, he was amazing and wanted to love her. Whitney finds she is having a hard time trying to convince him and herself that they can’t be. She didn’t want to break his heart.
Cole begs Whitney to let him in. He does all he can to pull her in no matter how hard she pushed him away. Knowing that he was a god in training he is convinced he can change her fate and save her life. She is all he feels he has left after losing his mother to cancer. He had his dad, the current principal, but there wasn’t much there to begin with. He resented his father for the divorce and it only made him more desperate to show Whitney love. He wasn’t his father. He could keep his promises to her. He could love her. She finds it hard to believe him with the constant need to save his life from her grandfather who wants to bring the underworld to the earth and let the demons and shadows take over. They want to take his soul if he won’t be their king willingly. Cole was legend to have more power than any god before him.
Once she finally lets him in he is taken away to a special camp to train for his role. It breaks them both apart. She feels she can’t live without him. He goes into the most rebellion he can, he just wants to be with her. When he does come home he surprises her. Then learns she tried to kill herself thinking that he wasn’t coming back. That was when she learned he meant what he said to her. He loved her and he was always coming back to her. Now he just has to get her to believe he could save her from her fate.
She knows he can do it, she can’t let him. She feels this is the way it has to be and messing with fate might be too much for them to survive. It causes his mother’s soul to push for the change. She believes in her son and knows he can fix the blindness of his ancestors. When Whitney finds out what his mother is trying to do she only pushes him away again. Whitney is learning to love, to trust in what he tells her, and that he is never giving up hope or on her.
