We'll keep this topic near the top of the folder for nominations and comments about the Buddy Reads folder. The previous How To Guide topic will be closed for comments, but updated as we go along to adapt to the best way to handle the "one-off" books we would like to discuss.

I started the first designated Buddy Read book today, The Secret Place. I'll post some initial thoughts on that book's thread. As we see how this one goes we can consider if this commenting format works for other books too.
While not 100% sure that hiding spoiler comments in a single post via spoiler html works smoothly since I am not able to read spoilers and comment under a spoiler cloak from the mobile app as easily as from my PC limiting my time to post I would like to throw out a couple of book suggestions for a possible buddy read thread. Anyone else planning to read and want to discuss either one of these:Prince Lestat by Anne Rice or
The Burning Room by Michael Connelly
We could alternately use the spoilers welcome folder to have more open spoiler posts about the book, read at your own peril before finishing the book.

Won't be reading Prince Lestat, but have The Burning Room on library request, and if forced to use or lose an Audible credit might get it there, but that won't be till early December. OTOH, I am #4 on 4 copies for the library audio, so it may come in sooner. As opposed to #229 on 49 print copies, how crazy is that differential?I agree on the spoilers welcome, read at your own risk approach, but wonder if we could carve up the books somewhat across a couple of topics (first half/second half etc.), without requesting chapter summaries. I like being able to read and post as I go along versus waiting until I'm done. I'm likely to post less and mostly final thoughts only if I wait till I'm done (elderly bad memory for earlier details, LOL).
Willing to participate either way.
Absolutely Carol! Both suggestions are great and I agree they facilitate commenting much more smoothly. Whenever anyone is ready to read one of our suggested books we can start the threads. I think I'd have better luck getting together a buddy read. So I googled Stand Alone Mysteries and found a list right here on GR which would be a good resource for both buddy reads and group reads. It's at https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...Would anyone like to read The Anatomy of Deception by Lawrence Goldstone with me? It takes place in 19th century Philadelphia and autopsies have just been made legal.
I would love to read it with you Shomeret! I just added the MP3 audio to my Overdrive account. The Anatomy of Deception looks good!
Can you wait until I finish my current audio book? I am a third of the way done with Station Eleven. That leaves about six hours which may take me until Wed or Thursday next week due to a lot of rain predicted over the weekend. I might finish sooner.
Of course my audio listening will be much slower than your print reading so that might be annoying.
Do you like the idea of spoiler posts hidden here under the Buddy Read umbrella or as open spoilers under the spoilers welcome folder?
You read so fast I will let you decide as you will beat me for sure.

Thank you for your enthusiasm, Ann. I have just requested the print version of The Anatomy of Deceptionmyself and I can't pick it up from the library until January 8th.
I have to read Rodin's Lover: A Novel for a blog tour on January 27. This means that I must be finished with The Anatomy of Deception by January 20 to give myself time to read Rodin's Lover. So I'm fine with starting the Buddy Read by January 13.
I'm one of those people who doesn't care very much about spoilers, but for the sake of those who do they should probably be hidden behind spoiler tags.
The Anatomy of Deception does look good. It brings to mind The Alienist by Caleb Carr. I will see if I can reserve it at the library. Then I'll know when I'll be be able to read it.
Since I enjoy historical mysteries I will join in too. I just downloaded the audio from Overdrive so should be able to start in mid-January.
Shomeret, Sandi and Carol: This sounds fun; I am excited to have a buddy read of The Anatomy of Deception to look forward to reading / listening with you. The timing sounds good, hope you can get a copy too, Carol. The link to stand-alone mysteries is going to be very helpful too. https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
Shomeret, Sandi, Carol and all interested, I started a thread to post all our comments for The Anatomy of Deception when we are ready!
Thanks, Ann. I'm guessing my copies will come in to the library by Saturday, will start after I finish whatever I'm reading/listening to that.
Cat mentioned in another thread that she would like to discuss the series that starts with The Restorer (oops, not book three in the series, The Prophet) by Amanda Stevens. I am going to try to get to is fairly soon, I was on the look-out for another book to borrow on Overdrive/Kindle and it is available. Anyone else interested? Ann wrote: "Cat mentioned in another thread that she would like to discuss the series that starts with The Prophet by Amanda Stevens. I am going to try to get to is fairly soon, ..."I'm trying to get a copy from PBS. Have a few credits there still to use.
Ann - Jan and I are interested in buddy reading The Satapur Moonstone. Book 2 in the Perveen Mistry series. The book release date is May 14. We will read it some time after that. And, of course, all our welcome to join us!

"Geri is right on top of this! I’m excited to read this book because I liked the first book, The Widows of Malabar Hill so much. I just emailed Geri and we’ve agreed to start on May 15. Yippee!
Geri and Jan O'Cat: that is great!! Color me green with envy! I must read The Widows of Malabar Hill very soon! (And I have a beautiful hardback copy staring at me from my stacks to remind me - thanks Ms. O'Cat!!) Geri wrote: "Ann - Jan and I are interested in buddy reading The Satapur Moonstone.
