Ch. 23 (view spoiler)[well my first comment is I’m shocked she blabbed to that author by the mailboxes on day one practically. She’s so cautious and smart about things I’d have thought she’d at least wait a little while lol. Plus I’m surprised she didn’t read the heavy agitation pouring off that lady. On that note I will say the heroine comes off as pretty dense. So many things are questionable like all those interview questions. Even the obvious clues about her neighbor she’s still not putting things together. Then again the mix of then and now might have me assuming I know what’s going on when really I have no idea lol. I know his other book blew my mind so I’m hoping that happens again. (hide spoiler)]

Ch 36 (view spoiler)[I’ll be honest, the blurb doesn’t quite do this book justice. I’m loving this whole mystery. Who’s involved at the Bartholomew? What’s actually going on? I’m not sure exactly yet what’s going on but I know Leslie is involved. The fact that only ppl with no family or relationships are allowed to live there. There’s a reason for that. I don’t trust nick either and I think we’re supposed to believe he’s involved but maybe not?!?! (hide spoiler)]

Finished (view spoiler)[Just the ending I was hoping for. It was obvious everyone at the Bartholomew was involved, so the mystery wasn’t that high. But as for why they were all involved and what they were doing....... holy shit. I’m disappointed in myself I didn’t see this coming given they had young, healthy, single and orphaned people apartment sitting. But rich people buying to save their own lives at the expense of others was not what I expected. God the way nick so carelessly talked about her and the ‘others’ being so beneath them, it was diffusing and I can’t believe ppl truly think like this. I was so damn proud when she lit her old apt on fire. I was hoping she’d do that in nicks apt but she had to get away. I knew he’d have some setup that made his place and the rest of the building on different systems, she needed that other fire just in case. Best ending though with her watching the building come down. One random and probably stupid thing I noted though was she should have been able to make a little bit of money at least telling her story to the news or papers. Sure it wouldn’t be a lot but I’m sure she isn’t getting back pay for her like five days of work lol. Plus I mean damn she deserves something after what she went through. It’s really scary if you think about it, this shit happens everyday, everywhere. (hide spoiler)]

The scene where she met the author made me cringe so hard. Imagine meeting the author of your favorite book and she was a total bitch, nothing like her character that you connected with so much. That would be like if I met Victoria Schwab and she basically told me to fuck off 😖

It usually takes me a little while to get hooked (especially with mysteries) and I rarely give books 5 stars, but this one was gripping from page one and I don't have a single complaint about it so far. Unfortunately, a "spoiler free" revealed way too much and I already know where it's going, but I don't mind because it's still a good read. (hide spoiler)]

I’m bummed the end was ruined for you though. That’s not cool. I had my suspicions about some things but I loved the buildup throughout the whole book. I was in a dilemma yesterday because I was reading both this book and Little Secrets and both are so unputdownable, but that one I had to review so I had to finish it first. I never get two great thrillers back to back!

(view spoiler)[I KNEW IT! It was obvious there was a pattern with all the temporal sitters, they are all orphans, jobless and likely without any friends or relative to look after them. I was hoping Nick is not the bad guy in this story but he is the most likely suspect since he is a surgeon. I still don't know how is this going to end but is getting good. But is strange only younger people died/disappear maybe there is some history there. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I loved this book it was a roller coaster and loved it! I didn't expect to be so normal at the end just rich people killing the poor like nowadays. I liked that turn. Jules was so damn strong and loved her for it I was a little sad she didn't have any clue at all about her sister's disappearance but kinda glad this book was all realistic in many ways. Even thought Dylan died at least Ingrid was alive.

This book was amazing because is not like the normal mystery book I'm used to read but a whole different level. (hide spoiler)]

I actually haven't been sitting at home for the last two days which slowed my reading down. Boo. But I'm up to Chapter 35.

(view spoiler)[ I assumed someone told Ingrid to lie to Jules and suspected it was Nick. Now I'm certain it was him because she slept with him, and the guy they sleep with is always a bad guy! This book is really good. Even when nothing is happening it's written in such an ominous way that it's still hard to put down. I guessed from the beginning that Jane went to the Bartholemew and that's why she disappeared, but that would mean she lied about her family to get in.

Since you guys are both finished I can say that the "non-spoiler" I heard was: everyone in the building is old, rich, and sick with failing organs, so you can guess where the story goes.
The synopsis doesn't say that, so how could anyone possibly know that going into the book? I'm 72% in and they have only alluded to two people being ill, so I consider that a major spoiler. I'm guessing Nick is harvesting organs from the people who go missing, and his family of surgeons have been doing it for generations. Even having these suspicions the whole time I've been reading, I'm still really enjoying the storytelling. (hide spoiler)]

Yeah I will say I had no idea. Sure in retrospect now I can see the lil clues scattered about, but my mind just never went there lol I’m sad it was ruined for you but at the same time I’m glad you’re still enjoying it.

Okay I'm finished! I loved it. I can't really think of any flaws, and I'm not going to penalize the book because someone spoiled it, so I will probably be rating it 5/5, which I rarely ever do. This book was actually on my 5 star prediction list.

I knew reading the Now sections that she wasn't in an actual New York hospital so I wasn't surprised by anything that happened but it was still really gripping. A thunderstorm rolled in when I was reading the last 20% which was nice. I was really bummed that she didn't get any closure about her sister, I thought she'd find proof about Jane there, but I guess it's more realistic that everything didn't tie up well. If I remember correctly it was people unknowingly making deals with the devil themed. It was on probably 7 or so years ago and got cancelled after one season. But it was about a girl who took a job restoring a spooky, legacy apartment building and she noticed things getting weirder and weirder the longer she lives there. This book reminded me a lot of that show. And also of the Annabelle movie when she was describing the basement storage area.
