Guess I'll have to keep looking.
I also have to say ... I'm somewhat annoyed that the collection included Timeskip, but did NOT include Paperjack. When I first encountered those two stories, they were in the same collection, with Timeskip occurring early in the collection, and Paperjack being either the last, or towards the end. I think that they're more powerful when presented together like that.

Dreams Underfoot is the first one, and is mostly about Jilly Coppercorn, and the two brothers, Geordie and Christie Riddle.
Tapping the Dream Tree is the next one, and that also features the three of them a lot.
The final one I had read previously is Moonlight and Vines and features a much wider cast.
That's the one that has the story I was looking for.
The story in particular is Heartfires.

In the story, the protagonists appear to be a group of homeless people, and they're searching in the ruins underneath Newford (according to my recollection anyway). And they find a sealed, concrete room. The room has considerable damage on the inside, claw marks and the like, as if something was trapped there and was trying to escape.
The protagonists sit down, and try to figure out what happened. In order to do that, each one tells a story about what might have occurred.
Gradually, as the tellings progress, it becomes evident that the protagonists are ancient, spirits and/or god-like beings, who pretend to be human, but the process of pretending and the time involved plays tricks on even their memories, so they have to tell stories to try to remember.
Anyone happen to recall the name of that story?
