I'm really enjoying it so far! I hadn't realized this was a PREQUEL series instead if a sequel. But I'm already more than interested.

I like the imagery in the beginning with the (view spoiler)[color names. Tessa GRAY, the DARK sisters. I'm intrigued about this magister character. Will and the Shadowhunters don't know much about him either, and why is he intent on marrying Tessa? Time to keep reading (listening) to find out! :) (hide spoiler)]

I don't think anything I'd say would be a spoiler for those books, but it just might not mean anything to you or make sense if you haven't read them. I kinda think it would be fun to read them in chronological order, and I definitely recommend those books for you to read after these if you enjoy them!

I''ve read chapters 1-6. So far I'm liking it. Most of the characters are likeable. Except for Jessamine cuz she's a real piece of work. I understand she doesn't want this life but there is no need to be so mean to everyone.

I''ve just finished the book myself. Overall I enjoyed it. However, there were a couple of slow spots. I do NOT like Nathaniel. I won't say much since some of you aren't finished yet. We can talk about that when others finish.

I found this book to be one of those that really didn't need to take this long to tell the story. I tend to find myself bored at times with books like these.

I've finished now too! I figured something strange was going on with (view spoiler)[Nathaniel from the beginning. Then when he was at the Institute and wouldn't let the Silent Brother guy look at him? We saw Tessa's experience with him when she first came to the Institute, and he seemed completely harmless. I feel like I had a harder time with this book because I was listening to it versus reading it. Next book, I'm definitely getting a print (or eBook) copy so I can see the words. I felt like I'd miss a whole bunch of stuff then have to catch up with whatever was going on later. I like the convenience of audiobooks sometimes, but maybe I'll limit that to books I've already read and would like to re-read.

That being said, I loved the writing style, and to me, the fact that the author takes a bit longer to get around to saying what needs to be said is just part of her voice and particular style.

(view spoiler)[The vampire instances reminded me of the vampire situation in the first Mortal Instruments book. I don't remember if there were actually any specific similarities, but maybe just the tone of the book in both those parts felt similar to me. Or maybe I just read too many vampire books (or too few considering how many are out there and popular that I still have yet to read). (hide spoiler)]

Overall, I'd have to say I really liked this book and look forward to reading the rest of the series! Although, I think I may have liked the Mortal Instruments a slight bit better :) First becomes favorite sometimes. I still have to finish reading that series though as well. Too many new sequels come out, I have trouble keeping up.

One more thing: (view spoiler)[ I don't understand how so many people like Will. I didn't find him particularly likable. He had a few moments of raw character, but in general he's just the guy who drives you crazy and you want to punch in the face. And Jem was a bit nicer, but didn't have as much face time and wasn't as easy to get close too. Maybe both characters develop more in the later books, so I suppose I'll just have to keep reading to see how things turn out. (hide spoiler)] End of story :)
