I'm enjoying following the discussion here. One of the reasons why Sense and Sensibility is not my favourite Austen is because the Eleanor-Edward relationship isn't developed as much as I'd like. However, this bothered me less this reread. I think if you focus on it more as a book about siblings and coming in age and less about love, that makes a difference. Also, I think the understated nature of Eleanor and Edward's relationship reflects their understated characters maybe?

I understand your point, truly, and I do agree that Elinor deserves more, but Edward doesn't bother me so much.
Perhaps, as Katie says, it's because in this reread I'm less interested in the romantic part of the novel and enjoy more other aspects.
Or maybe I'm just too influenced by the movie and TV portrayals of Edward and can't think objectively ;)

Dan Stevens is to pretty to be Edward but I wouldn't mind watching him chop wood in the rain! Hugh Grant makes more sense and his Edward is kind to Margaret.
