SOLVED. YA book about a girl who finds and names a cat called worm. Spoiler. [s]

The girl found the cat as a newborn ugly kitten who is then named worm by the girl because it looked like a worm. The cat turns out to be evil or possessed or something like that and makes the girl do things she doesn't want to do. That's all I remember of the book besides it did scare me as a kid.

The book is in English. I read it late 80s or early 90s. I have no idea on the author or publication date, sorry.
