Kiran, was this a YA book or more aimed at adults? Do you remember when you read it (e.g. 1990, 2010) and whether it was a new book at the time? Do you recall anything about the cover? Was the book set in present time or in the near future or far future? What was the nature of the apocalypse (nuclear, biological, etc.)?
I'm pretty sure it was an adult book. regarding the time it would have been definitely earlier than 2009 perhaps the early 21st century. The nature of the apocalypse was most likely nuclear.

So the plot of the book details a scientist who has been invited to do some research on light - there's some stuff about the wave particle duality and the dual slit experiment - but realizes that the CEO of the company who has a light aversion is actually Lucifer sent by God to destroy all trust in God. By doing this God hopes to make people do good deeds for themselves rather than the allure of heaven. Finally the scientist defeats the devil and stops an apocalypse
