SOLVED. 1950s soda shop scene where characters pay to beat up jocks and nerds. [s]

This may be a book, tv show, movie, or a figment of my imagination, but I think it’s a book.
I’m thinking of a scene (as in it’s not what the entire plot is about, just one scene) where two characters (both male I think) go into this 1950s era sodas shop place where people can pay to beat up/ mess with the people working there, who are actors. One of our make characters is a guy we don’t like very much, the other is our main hero. The guy we don’t like trips a nerd and punches a jock or throws a root beer float on him or something like that. The actors pretend to be hurt.
I’ve encountered this scene in the last year, probably YA. I’m thinking something like Scythe or Unwind. Please help!
