Good morning from beautiful Sioux City, Iowa. Quick question -- anyone here incorporate dreams into their writing?

message 56: by Rhys (new)

Rhys (inkbottleburning) | 142 comments All the time. I can get difficult though, depending on the dream.

message 57: by Rhys (new)

Rhys (inkbottleburning) | 142 comments I'm rereading the Berinfell Prophesies

message 58: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) I like to write about visions more than dreams. Dreams get boring, and it's hard to write them not seeming corny, if you know what I mean.

Do you have rich visions, or impoverished dreams? I have had what I like to think are visions -- or vision-like -- but by and far, my dreams are more in-depth, and story-like. Lots of material there.

Not in the typical sense... I am writing a collection of stories based on dreams that I have had. It's rather strange, to say the least!

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

Cool! I keep a dream log (when I can remember to write them down before I forget). Many have religious and Biblical under currents. Quite a few are stories in their own right.

message 62: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) That's really neat, and a dream log is a good idea. I don't like to tell people my dreams though, they may even be too weird to write down. :)

message 63: by [deleted user] (new)

O! That may be for the best. I on the other hand dream dreams that are like movies, while I am the one who watches. Sometimes, when I am in one of them, I am not even myself.

message 64: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) Yeah, that happens to me sometimes too, it's really odd. Mine are usually a little more confusing though and don't really have any order. Definitely not movie like. :)

Lena (lenakarynn) | 1526 comments Mod
Mine are the same way, D.L!

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

Groovy movie! :)

message 67: by [deleted user] (new)

In a similar vein, do any of you incorporate the personality of, or quotes from relatives? I ask because I have. I included a song I used to hear my Dad sing into the novel 'The Faerie Dusters'. I think it was original to him. I had the character of Will Witherspoon sing it while riding a horse.

Well, I thought I'd go fishin'
Got t' thinkin' it over
Y'know the road to the river
It is a mighty long way . . .

You could always memorize a code alphabet and write in that.

I do all the time.

message 69: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) My siblings would probably break the code. ;D They're smarter than me...

message 70: by Rhys (new)

Rhys (inkbottleburning) | 142 comments Oh...well? I don't know then.

Rhys (inkbottleburning) | 142 comments sorry

message 72: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Georges (tamarasinnamon) haha, it's totally fine!!

message 73: by Morgan (new)

Morgan | 318 comments I've written books inspired by dreams. Sometimes I'll have an adventure dream that's inspiring and I'll then work it into a story. I mostly use it as a jumping off point. My book The Experiment was inspired by two dreams, Espionage that I wrote last fall was inspired by a dream, and so was the outer space dystopian I'm planning to write next. Some of my dreams are too weird to be story dreams, though.

I have put real people in a book. In The Experiment, Abby Raingold is based on my sister. A bunch of characters in it are inspired by family and friends, but Abby is the only one who really came out right. As for quotes, I got the thing about good and great landings that I put in Across the Stars from now Congressman Barry Loudermilk. When he was getting his pilot's license, he used to tell us about it, and he said that a good landing was when you were alive, and a great landing was when you could use the plane again. :)

I have read that many of the classic authors also incorporated from dreams, family, and friends.

Shantelle Hey...just wanted to mention that I made a facebook author page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Shante..., since I'm in the process of publishing my first book (novella), EEP!! I'm so excited!! :-D

A Dream Not Imagined is a Cinderella retelling. I actually wrote it for Anne Elisabeth Stengl's fairytale contest. Did any of you guys write stories for that contest and end up publishing them on your own? I've noticed that some people did that...

Shantelle I believe she will be revealing the cover and giving instructions on how to enter and all on June 1st at her blog: http://anneelisabethstengl.blogspot.com/

That's usually how it goes anyway! :-)
