I have this in audio too - so it's great to read your comment on the narration. It'll be interesting to see if they work an Australian accent ;)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 4192 comments To my VERY limited ear, the australian accent was great. BUT alas I'm impressed when anyone does an accent so I can't attest to it's authenticity.

I don't think I've ever heard an Aussie accent live and in person!

LOL - I just really notice when it is the narrator does a very poor Aussie accent. I'd rather they just use their normal voice than disturb me with really bad imitations!

We also pronounce a lot of words differently which can cause confusion as I try to work out what the narrator just said ;)

I bet! That would really disturb me too. I don't think I've heard many people do a bad plain ole' american accent, so I don't have to worry about that.

However, I've heard people try to do Southern accents. Those can be REALLY bad.

Too Good to Be True by Kristan Higgins

Rating: ★★★
Review:
Frankly speaking I picked this book first because of it's cover. I mean come on! Look at that cover! How can you resist that? (Yeah I'm a pretty conceited person when it comes to books :P) When I read the synopsis I was more eager to read it. So when I got a chance, I grabbed it. And I was not disappointed....Atleast not that much.

I liked Grace and Julian(her best friend). Also liked Callahan but for some reason not that much. Grace's family though...hilarious and deeply embarrassing :P
Loved how Grace seemed to accidentally (the first time was intentional though :P) injure Callahan every time they meet in the beginning. Also Angus-you spoiled yet adorable dog :loved you! What I loved most was the moment Callahan & Grace FINALLY get together. Sooo romantic. *sigh*
It would have been a 4 starer atleast - if I had seen Callahan some more. Also though this book was really good it just didn't seem like a 4 starer. :)

Week # 1: MC is a nerd/geek/genius
Faefever (Fever, #3) by Karen Marie Moning
Rating: 5 stars
Review:
This book, this series, these characters, the setting, everything is just incredible but that cliffhanger is killing me and I need to read the next book ASAP! One of the things that shook me about Faefever was how dark and creepy it was compared to the last 2 books and the main character, Mac, missed the light relief we got from her in the previous novels and she also had become quite dark but also a more mature character.

I absolutely love Mac and think she makes such an amazing character. She's clever, strong and feisty but not in that annoying way that authors normally lean to. This kick-assing side of her is also balanced out with the old, girly Mac which I love the author for still keeping that consistent as it brings a lighter side to the books.

Jericho Barrons. What is he? Who is he? I want to know but then again I don't really care because I am ever so slightly in love with him. How is it that a character I know absolutely know nothing about I am so invested in. He does treat Mac like shit sometimes and sometimes he gets away with it. I was absolutely fascinated by the scene where Mac makes him a birthday cake and he kind of explodes. I need to know more!!!

The ending of the book was pretty much hell and it was not what I was expecting to happen to Mac and I'm so gutted for her, I've never wanted to read a sequel more.

Review:
I really enjoyed this book! It's a little darker than the usual historical books I read, but it really worked for this story. I liked how David and Balfour came from different social spheres, it helped highlight the different way they view the world. The way David thought of himself broke my heart. I will definitely be continuing with this series in hopes that David and Balfour get a HEA.

What category are you most looking forward to?

I think for me it's a tie between friends to lovers and tattoo on the cover. I've got quite a few book choices for both of those that I'm looking forward to reading.

I try to do that too. A lot of times, I'm pleasantly surprised and then I find a new genre to explore.

But then, there are sometimes when I KNOW it's not something I like because of previous experience, and I'd rather go in search of something that may be new to me but also a bit more in my comfort zone.

Definitely, if you already know you don't like the genre and aren't going to enjoy the book then you should spend your time reading something you think you might enjoy :)

Lisa (mooselover) | 2724 comments I will only read a book from a category that I wouldn't usually read for a challenge. Then I push my boundaries. Only once during a challenge did I find I had to DNF the book because I just could not read it.

Heroes Are My Weakness by Susan Elizabeth Phillips Heroes Are My Weakness 544 pages/GR Completed 9/21/14

How it fits: on the Unrequited Love Bookshelf

*3 STARS*

I wanted to like this book more. I'm a HUGE fan of SEP, but this was just too many things: too many story lines, too many characters. It just got to be overwhelming. Then add in the fact that the beginning third was extremely slow, I just had a really hard time warming up to this book

Then the ending seemed rushed, so it was only about a quarter of the book that I actually really liked. I thought Theo and Annie. I'm glad they got their act together, but all the other stuff just seemed to bog the book down.

I especially got upset about the plot line with the little girl and the puppets. It just seemed very irresponsible for Annie to be dabbling with the little girl's psyche like that, but of course it all worked out.

Anyway, not a favorite of mine by this author, but there were parts that I liked that really kept me interested. I had read reviews about the beginning of the book being really slow and I'm glad I read those because the book may have ended up being a DNF for me.

Review: This was a really touching story about one man trying to find himself in the midst of an awful breakup. I loved the setting along the Appalachian Trail. It kind of made me want to try it! I also liked that equal attention was paid to Kevin's backstory about the bakery and his history with his father's disease. My only complaint would be that I couldn't always tell where the story was going as there were so many threads and subplots. Ultimately, it was a great story that pulled me in. Thanks for the rec, Lisa!

The twincest/incest books really always have me so conflicted. I think that I end up pretending that they really AREN'T related or something. And since I'm always trying to push those boundaries, I've added your book to my TBR.

Week #2: Unrequited Love
On the Island (On the Island, #1) by Tracey Garvis-Graves
Rating: 2 stars
Review:
I have put off reading this book for ages for two reasons. One being because of the whole teacher-student thing and the other being how much this book has been hyped. I thought the relationship between the two was dealt with reasonably well and didn't bother me in the slightest but overall the book fell very flat for me, it was a bit boring and when I finished it I kind of thought 'is that it?'

The romance between TJ and Anna was slightly ridiculous, it had a very poor build up and when they finally got together TJ was magically this confident, experienced guy. That was incredibly frustrating because he was not like that at the beginning of the book and we definitely didn't see him grow into that personality he just kind of magically became that person. The chapters alternated between TJ and Anna's point of views and they both sounded very similar. Actually, TJ sounded like a young person and so did Anna. You almost forgot that Anna was this mature woman until she actually mentioned it because it certainly wasn't reflected in her POVs.

There was a ton of unrealistic, ridiculous things that happened. All of their belonging washed up on shore every few days and everything in the suitcase was intact, dolphins helped them to kill a shark, random chickens popping up to feed them, the random illnesses all cured by one type of medicine and don't even get me started on the never ending supply of shower gel, shampoo and shaving cream. Bloody hell.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but I loved the second book. It was an emotional read that often times felt like a roller coaster. I love how the relationship between David and Murdo develops and how they had changed each other after 2 years, especially in how David sees himself. I can't wait to read the third part of their story!
