viemag | 180 comments 1. How many books did you finish? Hard to believe but I only finished 1 book, Marcel's Letters by Carolyn Porter. How many pages did you read? 342 pages
2. Did you meet your reading goals? I think so. I was in a reading slump when the challenge started and was hoping to get out of it. What were your biggest distractions? Being in a reading slump was the biggest issue. I ended up walking away from books that I started and just couldn't get into any until I started Marcel's Letters by Carolyn Porter and then it was almost too late.
3. Did you have fun? I did. What were your favorite parts? I would have to say, I enjoyed the games, but wasn't always sure how to post so I got spoilers covering my answers.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? I would have to say Marcel's Letters by Carolyn Porter. It was a book for my June book club and I was not expecting to enjoy it but I was riveted.
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? No I don't. I am amazed at the games and how much work the moderators have to do. What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Yes, I would participate in them again. I enjoyed this one.

message 3: by Edie (last edited Jun 16, 2019 03:33PM) (new)

Edie | 1147 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read? Finished 5 books, including 2 that were started before the read-a-thon. Read 1793 pages so far.. with an undetermined number to be read tonight.
2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions? Yes, two of my books checked off ATY prompts and 3 checked off prompts for the Summer ATY challenge (and finished off the June prompts) Biggest distraction was some great weather that had me out in the yard more than anticipated.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? Lots of fun. The interaction with other members of Team Butterfly. We had readers from Denmark and the UK and Australia and all over the US.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Tolstoy and the Purple Chair which I discovered on my TBR list when looking for a book with a purple cover. Given it was mired on page 10 of the TBR list, I don't know when I would have gotten to it, but I am so glad I did.
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons? On balance this was great. I do think with the number of participants this time, it would have been better to have more, smaller teams. Having over 20 people on a team meant we filled buckets rapidly, but it was a bit discouraging to work on a book for a prompt only to see that prompt filled by another team member. It made sense with the bucket approach, but having to wait to finish a book until a prompt was available was frustrating.
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Absolutely. THANK YOU, THANK YOU for all the work goes into putting this together.

Us Against You

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes if I can

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read? 5 books and 1392 pages

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions? Yes. My family was gone in the early part of the week, but they came home and I had to spend time with them.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? Yes! Always enjoy the team,

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
The Heiress by Jude Deveraux. Utter fluff, but just what I needed.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
No. Thanks mod for another wonderful read-a- thon.

1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
- I finished 4 for a total of 1,209 pages!

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
- My goal was 5 books and I made it through 4.25... but I'll take it. I had a VERY busy week with working on the yearbook and preparing for our road trip.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
- Yea! I loved the team play... it's pretty much the only part I participated in.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
- Where'd You Go, Bernadette! It was a reread, but I read it back in 2013, so I didn't remember much.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
- I thought the teams were a bit big this time around. I know there were a lot of late additions, so 15-person teams turned into 25-person teams really quickly, but I think it would be a bit more fun if we were on teams of 10-15.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
- Yes! I love them!

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions? I read more that I expected but probably could have done even more. The first book I read was a little boring so it was easy to let things get in the way of reading.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? it was all fun, the reading the games, the team challenge and seeing all the books my team read.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Buried
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons? Can't think of anything it was a lot of fun as always.

Bec | 1338 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I finished 3 books and am so close to 1 other, and also listening to an audio book. I read 1284 pages

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't have any goals as such - so I can say yes :) My kids were my biggest distraction - they want me to do things with them - who would have thought! Oh and of course work.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
Yes, I enjoyed interacting with the team.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
The Ice Twins

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
Maybe less challenges that needed to be done in order. I didn't feel like I could really contribute to the books read as by the time I got to the relevant book we had moved on.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes

3. Did you have fun? yes. What were your favorite parts? It was quite fun to just share the news everyday with team members who were enthusiastic.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? The Caine Mutiny

Karissa | 440 comments 1. How many books did you finish? 10! How many pages did you read? 2,770 pages
2. Did you meet your reading goals? Yes, far exceeded! What were your biggest distractions? Work and watching the Stanley Cup Playoffs
3. Did you have fun? Yes! What were your favorite parts? Helping to complete the team challenge.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? That's tough, I read some great books during these 10 days. 7 out of the 10 books I read, I marked as 5 stars which is pretty unusual for me. My top 3 (in no particular order) are: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The Rosie Project, and Daisy Jones & The Six
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? Maybe there could be a book selection for the read-a-thon that everyone could read and discuss. Similar to the monthly book picks except everyone would try to finish this book during the 10 days of the read-a-thon. What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons? I really liked the bucket idea for the team challenge because I enjoyed the strategics of it.
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Definitely!

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Still working on it, but Dark Places.
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons? Maybe have more categories if there is something like the buckets. We seemed to get through a lot of them. Nothing other than that.

message 13: by Melinda (new)

Melinda (minna17) 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I finished 4 books and I am close to finishing two other books. I read 1689 pages.
2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't have any reading goals but I exceeded my expectations. I don't really consider them as distractions but work and hanging out with my house mate did prevent me from reading more.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I had heaps of fun! My favourite part was helping my team fulfill all the prompts.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
They were all really good! I reread Code Name Verity which is one of my favourites and I read Sadie for the first time and it was fantastic!
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
Maybe make the challenges a bit harder because we did seem to burn through them pretty quickly, but it was heaps of fun and I really loved everything!
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes!

message 14: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn | 563 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I finished 6 books and started 2 others. I read 2185 pages (which is just under half what I'm averaging for my reading in a month so far for this year!).

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't really have any specific reading goals. I think I am quite a distracted reader (I'm sure I never used to be before social media came along...!) and I was distracted by checking Goodreads regularly to see how we were doing, what bucket we were up to and whether the day's game had been posted yet!

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
But my favourite part was working together as a team (which involves checking Goodreads!). I did have fun. It was my first read-a-thon with the ATY group.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
I'm not sure. I rated Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty 4.5★, but I'm still thinking about A Night Divided by Jennifer A. Nielsen (and I only gave it 4★).

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
Since this is my first read-a-thon, I have nothing to compare it to! The only thing I was thinking at one point was that it seemed a bit intense (maybe the page count was too low for some buckets, because it seemed as though we were no sooner on a bucket until it was filled and we were on to the next one), and it seemed to drag a little toward the end of the week. Although possibly that was the time when we were filling buckets at breakneck speed and the fact that it was difficult to keep track of what was happening and where we were up to that made me feel like that...?

I was wondering whether making the read-a-thon something like a quest might break it up and less likely to drag - if you had to do a certain type of activity up to a certain point before you could "unlock" another stage with a different set of tasks e.g. once you've filled buckets and guessed an author, then that would unlock the next stage - maybe reading books to "spell out" the author's name using initial letters from book titles or author names, which might then unlock...? Maybe a bingo card that you need to get a certain number of bingos on before moving on to maybe a final push to complete a certain number of pages to finish the quest. You could even combine ideas (in a smaller format) from other read-a-thons, I imagine. Although I guess working something like this out is extra work for the mods! And it could be confusing as well. Whatever you mods decide for the next one will be brilliant, I'm sure!

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Absolutely!

The Raven King

I exceeded my goal of 5 books. Work was the biggest distraction.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I had a great time! I loved interacting with Team Butterfly.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
The Proposal
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
Smaller teams would be helpful. We were all reading so fast that there were quite a few times when you would read a book to fill a bucket but someone would beat you to it.
Do you plan to participate in future groups read-a-thons?
Definitely!

message 18: by Kristina (new)

Kristina | 245 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
3 books, 1060 pages

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I met my goal of reading 3 to 4 books (finished 3 and halfway through the 4th) and I'm out of my reading slump. The biggest distraction was work/being too tired from work to read. Also over this weekend I cleaned my apartment a little so that took some time.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
This was fun. I enjoyed the daily check ins.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
Little & Lion was very good. I'm currently reading All the Light We Cannot See and I think it may have been the favorite had I finished it since I really like it so far.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I don't have any suggestions.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes.

Tabitha (ellornaslibrary) | 65 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?

6(well 7 technically since the one book I finished was multiple novellas and I finished two of them as part of this); 1118 pages.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?

I didn't really have a particular goal. My goal was to at least read more than one book so I'm fine with how I did. My biggest distractions were RL personal matters that I knew might interfere.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?

I enjoyed myself quite a deal. The book related games like the screenshot and emoji things were neat, and so was Miles of Pages.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?

Hmm that's hard for me to decide. Was either the last two novellas I read as part of Four Novellas by Alyssa Cole, Cocaine Blues by Kerry Greenwood, or The Walking Dead Vol. 9: Here We Remain by Robert Kirkman. It's a hard call.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?

This was my first one so I don't really have any suggestions. Perhaps a better option in terms of individual challenge? The bingo game wasn't even a full board and really it wasn't as interesting a challenge as say the team option.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?

Yes, read-a-thons are something I enjoy. Between reading challenges and read-a-thons I'm able work through periods where my personal struggles with chronic pain and depression interfere with my reading in terms of focus and how much I read.

18 - unbelievable 4,523 pages including some audio
2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
Yes i did - as always my hubby is biggest distraction he doesn't understand reading always wants to be going somewhere
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
great team chatter
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? hard to pick
Britt-Marie Was Here and All Among The Barley and The Cement Garden are among the contenders
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
would like to see more readathons. I found that most of my team were on a different time zone so I would go to bed reading for a task - get up and we had gone beyond that. Maybe smaller teams
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thins? Yes

message 21: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3271 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
8 completed and 2/3 of my last one finished by the end of the last day, for a total of 2321 pages.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I never set very firm goals for a readathon. My goal is just to read as much as I can, and I definitely did that. My biggest distraction was getting sick halfway through the week, but it kind of worked to my advantage because I ended up taking a day off work and had more time to read than I otherwise would have.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
It was fun. I really liked the daily games.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
Probably On the Come Up, with Daisy Jones & The Six in a close second.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I'm struggling with how to word this clearly, so I hope it makes sense. I liked that the team game was different from the usual Bingo card, but I also found it nearly impossible to keep up with. I did my best to contribute wherever I could, but I got a bit overwhelmed trying to keep track of everything. I basically didn't participate in the 20 Questions part of the challenge at all because I just couldn't keep up, which is a shame because it seemed like fun.

The buckets were a bit easier, but I still found that things happened so quickly that by the time I read something that I thought would count toward a bucket, the group had already moved on. It's not really a problem since at least we were completing challenges, but I just felt like I wasn't really helping as much as I would have liked. Maybe smaller teams would have been better.

I didn't really like that buckets had to be completed in order because it made it hard for me to plan my own reading, let alone try and keep up with what everyone else was doing. I had many books that fit buckets, but we'd either be past the buckets that would apply to me, or I finished the book long before it was needed. It became a game of trying to predict when the group would be ready for the next bucket, and try to time my reading accordingly, which is pretty hard to do.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes, as long as I have the time to devote to them.

message 22: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sezziy) | 614 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
3, only a couple of chapters away from a fourth. I can't remember the exact number of pages but it was just under 1000

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't have a specific goal but I had a lot of distractions this last weekend. I went to London, saw the freaking Spice Girls!! - as well as a lot of other fun things which meant no reading time for me

3. Did you have fun? What were your favourite parts?
Yes, I loved the change of the game

4. What was your favourite read of the read-a-thon?
Fallout

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
This would probably be a logistical nightmare but maybe split the groups based on where they're based? I didn't really get to contribute to the twenty questions aspect because I was in a different time zone to the majority of the group so I was asleep for most of the "action." Both authors were guessed whilst I was in bed.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes!

I finished 2 books and read 860 pages.
2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I would have liked to have finished 3 or more books, but life and Father's Day intervened.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I did have fun and enjoyed learning about what others were reading.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
The Whisper Man
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I wish that I could have contributed more to the buckets, but I could not save the last pages for later reading. :) I was satisfied with just adding to the page count. You did an amazing job.
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Sure, it encourages me to read more.

message 24: by °~Amy~° (new)

°~Amy~° (amybooksit) 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I read 9 books and 1473 pages

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
Mostly. I planned to finish one more book but I kind of got burnt out on power reading after the first 7 days. I didn't read anything for day 8 and 9 and only 35 pages on day 10.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I did have fun up until the last few days.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
I just like challenging myself to read as much as possible for a week.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I honestly would like to see the read a thons return to just 7 days. Any longer gets tedious. I didn't read anything really after day 7 because I was kind of burnt out on it.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't read as much as I wanted, I had some other stuff going on last week and not being at work actually meant I had less time where it was just me and a book!
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
Yes, the bucket game was manic but fun.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
Aurora Rising
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I didn't mind so much that the buckets filled up so quickly, I felt that I didn't need to read anything specific in order to contribute, but maybe smaller teams would have been easier to manage.
I'd like to be in a group with a few more people in a similar time zone to me, just because every morning I woke up and so much had happened, but then I'd check in throughout the day and it was very quiet. I know you guys ask where we are in the sign-up, do you then divide us up equally? Maybe we could be lumped together instead!

I was meant to be helping Emily with team leading but honestly, I wouldn't like to lead a team in future where everyone is active at a different time from me as it's just too hard to keep up.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes

Jackie (heirloomroses) | 211 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read? 4 books finished, 1226 pages read
2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions? My main goal was to finish The Gilda Stories as it was due back at the library in a few days. Since I finished it on June 8th, I lost steam. I think my biggest distractions were work, which was anticipated, and my lack of concentration, which was not.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? Working as a group to finish the buckets was a lot of fun.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Ironically it is Big Sexy Love. I only started it on June 16th and I'm 50 pages in but I really want to read more.
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons? I think 10 days seemed like a really long time to me. I did the 24B4Monday and I think three days was really good for me. I think I lost steam since it went on for ten days.
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Yes!

Lieke | 697 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
2 (started before the read-a-thon) and I was half way my third book. I think little over 600 pages (but I can't check the spreadsheet at work)

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
Since I just wanted to enjoy my reading it wasn't hard to meet my goal. The weekends where busier then expected so I didn't read as much as I had hoped to do.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
It was fun, I liked the group challenge with the buckets and I like the sort your shelf game :)

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
The Boy at the Top of the Mountain by John Boyne

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I think the groups became too big with all the late additions.
The side games can be fun, but I don't like all of them and now it felt like I had to do them for the team. I prefer that they are not part of the group challenge or at least not the way is was now.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
yes :)

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I finished 4 books, and read 1515 pages. (That includes quite a few pages on a long book I didn't finish, and a few books I started and gave up on.)

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't finish as many reading challenge books as I hoped to, but I did make a lot of progress on a long one, so I'm pretty pleased. As usual, my main distractions were getting together with family (both planned and spontaneous), and my own tendency to reading slump if I push myself too hard to read ALL the time.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
The team challenge was fun, as were all the little games and tags to participate in.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
One of Us Is Lying (Wives and Daughters will probably be even better, but I haven't finished it yet.)
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
No specific suggestions, as I enjoyed how this one worked, and appreciate all the work you all put into it!
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Likely yes, though always dependent on how the scheduling works out.

Sarah | 539 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I finished 4 books, 1 started before the read-a-thon. I ended up reading 1218 pages for this week.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I think that I did, I didn't set any big goals for the week I just wanted to play catch up on my ATY challenge and my good reads challenge and I managed that! My biggest distraction was that I ended up not being able to read much the last weekend because it turned into a very busy weekend.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I sure did. I enjoyed working with my group to meet our goals and trying to play the games.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
I would say it was The Last Anniversary by Liane Moriarty. It was a book I picked out during the read-a-thon to help with one of the buckets.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
I loved being part of a group and doing the group challenges but I think that it would be better if we could have had smaller groups. And Maybe have it go from Saturday to Friday, I found that my last weekend of the read-a-thon I didn't read much and part of it was because I was so busy but the other part was that I might have I just done with reading at that point.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Oh yes!

Khristina (readingreckless) | 33 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
16 books. 5646 pages

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I didn't have a goal for it, but I did read a lot more that I thought I would.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I loved it. I liked doing the challenges and talking to the people in the groups. Finding new friends.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
Warcross

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
10 days was a LONG time. But I still loved it. Smaller teams would have been better.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Absolutely

Sarah A. (cera_az) | 11 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read? Unfortunately only 2 books, 800 pages - my week ended up being busier than I thought

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions? I would have liked to have read more

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I did have fun and enjoyed that it "made" me turn off the TV and read

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
End Game by David Baldacci

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?
a)It would help if the daily challenges were numbered in the title. I had a hard time figuring out which one was the new one for the day.
b) The pro to the big group was that the buckets got filled quickly, which was fun to see. But the con was that it just ended up going too quickly for me to help other than to to the page totals. I did feel bad about that.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Definitely

message 32: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 518 comments . How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I finished 6 books and read 2041 pages.

2.Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
Yes, I met my goals. Biggest distractions were life in general intruding on reading time.

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I did have fun. I especially liked the variety of ways to participate in this marathon, everything from individual challenge to group participation.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon?
Pachinko

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?

I was frustrated by the fast pace of the group challenge and eventually gave up making a book I was reading for a particular type of book for the group challenge a priority. I found I enjoyed the daily games and just making time for reading over a sustained period of time the most.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Yes. I loved the variety of ways to participate.

Deborah (dg_reads) | 418 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read?
I finished 15 books and 5007 pages total.

2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions?
I definitely met my goal to read a lot. I had to fight off a migraine midway through that left me reliant on audio for a while. There is also an expected mid-readathon slump I think with 10 days and the middle hitting during the middle of the work week (at least for me).

3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts?
I really enjoyed working with a team (yah butterflies!) and digging through my bookshelves to find ways to fulfill reading prompts.

4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Probably With the Fire on High because it was a highly anticipated 2019 release for me and I was glad to have something fun to fit a prompt.

5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons?

I think either working with smaller groups or increasing the number of pages/prompts to fill a bucket might be good things to consider. I loved having to fulfill prompts to move on, but it seemed like it was going so fast it was hard to keep up or know who would check off a prompt you might also be working on.

I think having to read books and hold off on finishing them until a bucket came up was essential to being competitive with this style of readathon, but it probably took something away from the enjoyment of reading to have to hold off on that last chapter. Maybe if there were a way to make each bucket bigger and not reveal the next bucket until the first bucket was done would help slow things down and keep the groups more focused on what they're currently working toward.

6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons?
Absolutely yes! The mods and the team leaders and really everyone on the teams did a fabulous job of making this a fun experience and I look forward to more!

Joan Barnett | 1972 comments 1. How many books did you finish? How many pages did you read? 4 and that was start to finish. 1,114 pages
2. Did you meet your reading goals? What were your biggest distractions? No only because I wanted to finish Golden Son and I did not. My distractions were work and I had to drive my son to Boy's State Camp which was 3 hours one way.
3. Did you have fun? What were your favorite parts? I did have fun. I love the emoji games. Working with the team is fun too and seeing how much everyone reads. It's amazing.
4. What was your favorite read of the read-a-thon? Probably All Your Perfects. I can be a sucker for a romance.
5. Do you have any suggestions for how to make the read-a-thon better for next time? What would you like to see more of in future read-a-thons? I thought this read a thon was extremely well done. The buckets made it more challenging to figure out what you were going to read which was a different twist. Good job as always to the mods.
6. Do you plan to participate in future group read-a-thons? Yes of course!
