Stephen King is my favorite author and I'm working my way through reading all of his books. So of course I designed a challenge revolving around him!
This is a 3 book challenge.
No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used.
All three books must have a total of at least 750 pages.
Book 1
King gained instant success with his first published book Carrie. Read a book with a character's first or last name in the title.
Examples:
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
The Great Gatsby
Life of Pi
Book 2
Although King's books often cross several genres, there are 3 he writes the most often. Read a book with a main page genre of Horror, Fantasy or Science Fiction.
Examples:
Bird Box (Horror)
Circe (Fantasy)
The Martian (Science Fiction)
Book 3
King sets many of his books in the same fictional towns he created, such as Castle Rock or Derry. Read a book set in a fictional place.
Examples:
Middlemarch (Middlemarch)
Murder at the Vicarage (St. Mary Mead)

Last August my white shepherd died suddenly. My heart is still healing slowly but one of the things that has helped has been volunteering for Echo Dogs White German Shepherd Rescue. This task is dedicated to them

Book 1. Read a book with a domestic dog on the cover
Book 2. Read a book with Rescue, rescued, rescuing in the title/subtitle
Book 3. Read a book with F TO A (foster to adopt the most common thing I do) in the Authors name

Book 1. She was born in Amherst, MA, and lived almost her whole life in the same house, in sight of the graveyard where she would eventually be buried. Many of her poems deal with the subject of death, but to me the most memorable begins: “Because I could not stop for Death –He kindly stopped for me –”
Read a book that is either at least 50% set in Massachusetts, or has a grave marker, tomb, tombstone or graveyard on the cover.
Book 2. Like us SRC members, she was a real book lover, and even wrote poems about them. Read a book with a title of at least three words, where all the initial letters can be found in the phrase “THERE IS NO FRIGATE LIKE A BOOK” (the poem can be found here: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem...).
Book 3. One of my favourite of her poems is HOPE: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poem.... Read a book by a single author, whose name contains all the letters H O P E.
AdaptationsBooks get reworked and stories are retold in many other formats. This challenge revolves around book adaptations. Please provide a link to a reference to confirm each adaptation.
Movie: Read any book that has been adapted to a movie and released by the start of the challenge.
Example: Gone with the Wind
TV: Read any book that has been adapted to a TV show and has aired at least one episode by the start of the challenge. Shows aired exclusively on streaming services such as Netflix do count.
Example: Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
Theatre: Read any book that has been adapted into a stage play and has been performed at least once by the start of the challenge. Must be a professional production. No school productions allowed.
Example: Of Mice and Men
Every year I select a number of books, usually classics, to read during the year. This list is meant to help me to expand my reading horizons and read more challenging books than I usually would. This year, the U.S.A. trilogy by John Dos Passos. Taken all together, the trilogy is said to be The Great American Novel. Let's explore The Great American Novel and trilogies together.

Option 1: Read a book from this listopia list: The Great American Novel
Required: State where on the list the book can be found
Option 2: The books in the U.S.A. trilogy are: The 42nd Parallel, 1919, and The Big Money. In honor of the second book in the trilogy, read a book with a year in the title/subtitle.
This list may help with ideas: Books With a Year For a Title. This is for inspiration only, books don't need to come from this list.
Option 3: The trilogy. Read a book that is either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in a trilogy. The trilogy must be listed on the Goodreads MP.

Read one book from each option. The total page number must be at least 750 pages. No book with genres children or kids are allowed.
Book 1: The space race was one battlefield in the cold war, as US and USSR competed to be supreme in space. A lot of firsts went to USSR: first man in space, first dog in space, first woman in space, but US eventually managed to be the first to the moon. To celebrate, read a debut novel.
Book 2: The men on this first flight to the moon were Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. Read a book written by an author who shares a name with one of these three men. The name can be in any position, but must match exactly.
Book 3: Humankind has gazed on the moon for eons and wondered what it was made of and if it would ever be possible to go there. July 20, 1969, was the date we first set foot on the moon. Read a book with the moon on the cover.

The 50 point task will require:
1. Only 3 options.
2. One book per option.
3. Three books totaling at least 750 pages. Your task idea may require a higher page threshold but this must be disclosed in your entry.
4. No books with the genres children or kids on the main book page may be used.
5. Books whose main page lists any of these genres: Sequential Art, Comics, Comic Book, or Manga may not be used.
6. No “free choice” options will be allowed. This is a challenge, so tasks that have no element of challenge do not fit the purpose.
7. A task must be accessible to the majority of players, i.e. not limited to a specific format, edition, publisher, etc. and reviewable by the moderators.
Anyone eligible* to design a task may submit an idea for a task that follows the general guidelines above. Your idea should be a sketch that may be developed with the moderators.
* To be eligible to create a task, the player’s profile must be set up to accept Goodreads messages, and he/she must not have a task in the current challenge. Only one task per person per challenge.
The group will vote to determine the 50 point task. All ideas that fit the general guidelines will be included in a poll. The poll winner will develop their idea with the moderators to refine their task. The final task may differ from the original idea submission. The task will be posted as close to the midpoint as reasonably possible. The task creator will monitor and answer questions in the help thread.
Please include your readerboard name and a title for your task. The entries will be listed by readerboard name and task title in the poll. Please include only one task idea entry per post.
