YA or Children's book from the 90's, from the point of view of a conch shell. It was a short fiction novel, not a picture book, and the shell could only think, not speak or anything. The book followed the shell's thoughts as it was (born?) grew as part of a crab, and then the crab moved out and it was alone. It washed up on shore and (I think?) became the property of a young girl who liked to listen to the ocean in it. But it was a big, beautiful conch shell, and it was stolen from the girl by an older man who wanted it for his shell collection. Some other things happened to it, and I think the book ended with the shell shattered into tiny pieces, but turning into sand and in the end being happy with its fate.
