Read-a-Thon #2 - Team Butterfly
Ok that works for me! I was on the fence about it as well.
So it's a race to the finish with the buckets, everyone!
So it's a race to the finish with the buckets, everyone!
For bucket 18 a graphic novel/book with illustrations, I am reading The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman, which has illustrations.I have only one chapter left and can wait to read that until we get there.
Deborah wrote: "...Johanne wrote: "Just checked the back cover of 'One of us is lying' and there is a question: 'Everyone has secrets, right?', don't we think that's what's meant with the question in synopsis?"Also, I think One of Us Is Lying came out in 2017 and I've seen a lot of book buzz about it, so it could also go for that. ..."
Yes, you´re right. I expect to almost finish One of Us Is Lying tonight, and then I´ll hold off finishing it till we get to the last bucket, since it works for both the buzz in the last three years and question in the synopsis, and we´ll see what´s needed.
Afterwards I will get on to reading Red Sister that I don´t think fits for anything, but we need those pages :)
Emily wrote: "Sweet! I wake up this morning to our pages filled for this bucket! All we are waiting on is the book with the heart on the cover or in the title, which I know Jill was close to finishing.

I think it was Brittany who was working on a book with a heart in the cover. I am working on a book by a person of color. 😊
Emily wrote: "Whoops, you're completely right! I'm still waking up haha"Me too! It is 5am and I am getting ready to head to work. Have a great day and I will check in later today when I get home.
I finished Princess in Love for the heart cover. It was 260 pages. Good luck with the rest of today everyone, I’ve got to sleep.
Do we need another author of colour book? I started reading The Binding which doesn't work for anything, but I could probably read a Tor novella pretty quickly.
Woke up this morning to a lot of progress! It's nice having such a diverse group of time zones on the team.I'll mostly focus on pages today, though I am working on a book by a person of color in case it is needed when I finish. I still have another 250 pages to go, though they move fairly quickly.
pages I read for books I started last week that I forgot about:65 pages of Bookworm: A Memoir of Childhood Reading
37 pages of A Good Marriage
completed Disney book tag if that still counts for anything
@Ellie, I just peeped in the other groups' spreadsheets and they say 35.000 so I think it's a mistake in ours.
I fixed it.. thanks for looking out Ellie and Johanne!
We have finished Bucket 16!
Up next for Bucket 17 is a book involving an animal and two books by authors of color. Deborah, Ellie, you may want to go after those POC books, since we only have Jill down for one of them. Kelly said she would look into books involving animals, but I'm not sure if she found a book/is reading it now, so anyone who has something that will fit for that one, please let me know! We also need to get 1,100 more pages for this bucket.
On deck for Bucket 18 is 20 letters in the title and graphic novel, which I know we have both covered. Just hold off on finishing those until we get to that bucket!
As a reminder, feel free to mark down your pages and games on the spreadsheet. Ellie and I can certainly do that for you if you don't feel comfortable with it, but that option is now there if you're interested.
EDIT: The games don't really count for anything now that we aren't asking questions, but it's still fun to fill them in and see how many of us participated, so feel free to keep posting them.

I was able to finish With the Fire on High which would count for the author of color prompt.EDIT: I have Prodigal Summer which definitely has animals involved that I'll keep working on as a backup. :)
I finished
which has a horse on the cover. So we can use that as long as the animal doesn't need to play a big role in the book, because the horse is only mentioned once or twice in the story. So far today I have read 47 pages and have put them on the sheet.

Clearly my coffee was not caffienated enough!
In any case, should definitely count. :) I will keep working on adding pages to my tally so we can be ready to move on when we get another POC author book done.
Ok we are waiting on one more POC author book and another 600ish pages! Feel free to update your page count as you read to help us get to our total.
(No pressure, though. Once-a-day check-ins are fine as well.)

June, we only moved to this bucket around 6 hours ago... did you complete the book before that time? We can't count it if you finished it more than 6 hours ago.
How do we define 'person of colour'? in my mind everyone's skin is a colour, but I obviously know that's not what's meant. I am asking because I have a graphic novel series 'Amulet' by kazu kibuishi (Japanese) that I plan to read tonight and I don't know how close anyone else is to that bucket book. Is it just authors of African descent, or?I am almost done with 'One of us lying' and I have to stop before it's finished to hold back for the last bucket... the suspense is killing me!
Johanne, according to Google, a person of color is "a person who is not white or of European parentage"... so a Japanese author would work. We did have a couple people working on books for this one, but I would say go for it, and we can always slot it in as a graphic novel next bucket (or count it for pages, which we are short on for next bucket!)
I was just going to read them for pages but it just occured to me. I'll see if someone else is faster than I am.

We've got the pages now - I just finished a book this morning and entered my page count in which tipped us over! Just the POC author to go for this bucket :-)
So far, I have 133 pages on Death in St. Petersburg: a Lady Emily Mystery. We could use this for the 20 letters in title if you count the whole title, including the subtitle. Otherwise, the first part is is 19 letters. I can hold off finishing the book if we can use it.
I'm working on Sorry I'm Late, I Didn't Want to Come: An Introvert’s Year of Living Dangerously. The author is half Chinese which I think would count, though I strongly suspect someone else will finish a POC author book first. If I do get close to finishing, I will check back because it would also work for the long title prompt.
Excellent, all! Just waiting on that POC book... I imagine the buckets will go quickly after we get through this one.
Also, just a quick reminder (off topic of the Read-A-Thon)
If you have claimed a spot on the community spreadsheet, don't forget to update it periodically!

Not entirely off topic... I updated fairly recently, but definitely have some readathon reads to go update! :)

Edie wrote: "Dina wrote: "So far, I have 133 pages on Death in St. Petersburg: a Lady Emily Mystery. I finished The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi who is Japanese and Emily says is ok to use for author (and illustrator in this case) of colour. I have one chapter left in One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus ready to go for any one of the slots in the last bucket. The crime did get solved so I am okay with holding off now :)
Total page count today 361 pages, that I put in the spreadsheet.
Johanne's finished the person of colour prompt, so - go, Edie, go! And that will cover the 20 letter title for bucket 18.
Good night everyone. Looking forward to seeing all the progress from you guys in other time zones while I sleep :)
Yay! Another bucket down team!
We are now on Bucket 18, with a book with more than 20 letters in the title and a graphic novel or book with illustrations. We have a few people who are covering the 20 letters, but only one who mentioned illustrations (Alex), so if you have a book that could cover that in the meantime, let me know.
We are also 600 pages short on the page count, but I know we will fill that in no time!
On deck is Bucket 19, with a book related to the 2020 Olympics and a book related to NASA.

Kathryn, I saw you just finished The Little Bookshop on the Seine... does that count for the 20-letter title?
Emily wrote: "Kathryn, I saw you just finished The Little Bookshop on the Seine... does that count for the 20-letter title?"I did finish it (and I certainly can't use it for a book with illustrations). I was going to leave it for Edie to claim the spot, but she hasn't checked in yet...
I was concentrating on a book by a person of color so I have not started a book related to NASA (The Mars Room). I don’t think I will be able to start it until late tonight and won’t finish it until either late tomorrow night or Sunday. So if someone else has something that they would be able to finish sooner go for it!
No worries! Y'all were tag-teaming it anyway... you just happened to be the one awake when the bucket was filled.
Hopefully we can fit hers in later!

Ok Jill! That is a dense book, so you probably shouldn't push yourself on it. Hopefully someone else can pick it up!
Alex should be covering The Graveyard Book... they said there was only one chapter left to read for that.
So we will need someone to claim the NASA prompt next bucket fairly soon.

Of course, you continue to play just for fun, but two authors would be the goal in order to win the challenge.
