Hello guys and gals, Eid Mubarak .

I was going for 3 stars but I decided that it deserve 4 stars! I don't know why, since it is the first time I read a fantasy novel.

Well, As I said this was my first fantasy reading and I really enjoyed it, exciting and thrilling it takes you to different places, force you to imagine and play the scene in your head places, characters, battles .....

The best thing is that you can't figure out what comes next. You may expect that the main characters are invincible but you will be surprised that they run away from a battle, maybe too vulnerable sometimes.

I like how Schwab presents the characters in different scenes, so I was able to remember them all ( I have a problem remembering novels characters xD), But I think she went too far on this one, the first 80-100 page was like a long boring introduction.

The end was kinda cliffhanger, it made me want to read the other books of the series to see how Lila's and kell's life will be.

Who tried to read " As Travars " like magician xD

Some sayings that catch my attention

“A life worth having is a life worth taking"

that one is Lila's saying I don't know if she meant that stealing is a good way to have a good life or she meant that a good life needs to work hard for it ! what do you think?

“I would rather die on an adventure than dying standing still”

“Battle so may be fought from the outside in, but wars are won from the inside
out.”

“Some people steal to stay alive, and some steal to feel alive. Simple as
that.”

“hunger—for energy, for life—did things to people. Made them do things.”

I ashamed to admit that I’ve been reading this book the whole month and only got about halfway through, it is certainly not because it’s not interesting.....

on the very contrary; it has great potential as there’s different elements in it, that starts from interesting sets of characters to a broad world of magical intrigue.

HOWEVER at first I held of reading because I wanted to read the physical copy so I waited for Ktoobs or shakespeare bookstores to get it for me but I ended up getting other books as “An Ember in the Ashes” 1 &2 and even Others! Since they didn’t have a darker shade of magic in stock 🙈🤭 and eventually ended up reading those first and putting the other on hold .... aahh the shame xD

BUT !!! I’m still determined to finish this one so I started to listen to the audiobook each night and as I said before I can proudly say Im 52% and Hamza I totally relate with you !! because when the narrator says the words “ As Travars ” In a a gravelly deep voice I can’t help but imitate him 🤓

Well done on the review and I’m happy that you enjoyed this one as its your first experience with fantasy books, it only encourages me more and fuel my determination to finish it!!

# Leila nothing to be ashamed of, Actually it is because of you that I got motivated and decided to finish this one ( As I said the first pages was a little boring) After I saw that you were excited about the book when you update your reading progress at first before you stop reading xD

Do you only read paper-books ?

Oh my.... you just made me feel pride for myself xD I’m really happy. I’ll try harder from now on!

As for paperbacks not necessarily, I used to read solely ebooks (because if you see my read books on GR I wouldn’t be able to afford all that 😅) , I used to be young, impatient , had too much energy which led me to be very irresponsible with my eyes, I used to read all the time from tiny extra lit phone screens and stay up half of the night to finish books because I had other things to do so in the morning ( I still don’t know how I managed to keep good scores on my time in school lol! ) and because of THAT I feel the consequences now, and it doesn’t help my conscience xD as I am specialised in this field now I’m more aware pf the damage thatmy old habits can cause to my eyesight, as I’m already loosing focus of sight if I get tired and they get reddish sometimes. But hamdoullah I still see 10/10 🙏🏻🙏🏻

So in order to protect my eyes I set some rules to myself:
1- read ebooks occasionally AND with bright lights preferably in daylight so I wont expose my eyes to harmful artificial light
2- just read old fashioned paperbacks it’s the best solution haha
3- listen to audiobooks help with the pronunciation and saves time

Wow I feel old and cranky xD

These are the stack of books that I accumulated this past month (minus la fille en papier, I had that book since last year but never got to finish it properly xD it follows me everywhere before we met is just pretty read it a long time ago but still rereads ot from time to time), foreign books are crazy expensive, but it’s manageable if I narrow my purchases to 1-2 a couple of months and clearly Algerian and french editions are far less expansive and more available in local bookstores of course.

Oh God, you made me read all this, next time use chapiters to format your post xD. And try to write in less good English, you made mine looks horrible xD.

I wish I started reading at a younger age, lucky you:). I could use your rules to protect my eyes too. And agree with you about the pronunciation part it is an efficient way to do it.

" Wow I feel old and cranky xD " They said a reader live more than one life, his and the authors and characters he read about, maybe you have to set some souls free to feel a little younger xD

Ooh 😮 I don’t have a PC at the moment so I’m using my phone and it’s extremely hard to from sentences, since its keeps correcting and converting words; let alone write whole paragraphs correctly haha

And the worst part is I’m not proof reading them. I just noticed how my thoughts and sentence structure are... sorry I made you read all that

And don’t even think about criticising your writing because it’s impeccable! Well organised, simple and very understandable.

And that’s exactly what every readers reviews and post should be, after all; we are not professional writers xD.

Ps: I made an effort 🙌🏻

Hahaha I was just joking about the whole reading thing xD, you have a great collection of books though, seems that you read only novels what about other types of books?

I only have some paper books ( 7 or 8 most of them are used ) and I bought them lately and you're right about foreign books prices, they make ebooks a great solution even if it would take your sight away :D

I do read other books:

For example
-I own a lot of memoirs I’m currently reading one of two That Ive brought with me
-I read occasionally philosophy books I find them really interesting, they help guide and widen my perspective.
-My Arabic books are purely islamic, I dont read much besides that, if never🙈
-And of course my study and research books, those are attached to my skin now lol

These are my other reading Btw me collecting books are my family’s pride but at the same time their worst nightmare lol

I don’t shelve these books onGR nor do I talk about them outside of their respective place, since I don’t think I’m versed enough to discuss islamic books, nor do I have a right to critisize someone’s journey and traumatic life experience and certainly I don’t boast about my work and study books because I feel like I already talk too much about them in real life.

And besides novels and fiction are more fun, entertaining and easy to discuss. In my humble opinion that is

Anyways ! what are YOUR reading preferences besides non fiction ? Did you find (since you’ve joined) Goodreads a good source of learning? , and if so have obtained what you’ve been aiming for?

Ps: if anyone is passing by and read this long boring text 😂 consider replying to these questions, I would love to know about Your experience and what you’re currently reading ! Or just recommend any book, a sentence, a title would be enough ^^ thank you!

Owning and collecting books , to have your own personal library is the best part of being an avid reader Hamza, go ahead and buy now and then a book. It’s nothing to be regretful about!

Oh God, I won't ask any other Question because I want to have some sleep xD

Okay, where to start! collecting books and owning my own library, totally agree with you, maybe I didn't have the chance to start reading at an early age but I will make it sure that someone else will :)

I have the same feeling about criticizing or reviewing knowledge books. I read lately " a brief History of time " by Stephen Hawking and I was talking to myself " who are you to review this genius work !?" but even though I wrote a review xD I write a review as a way to remember myself what I have read.

I think that psychology books, Islamic books, and all knowledge source books deserve to be discussed more than pleaser books because when you finish reading those you end up with more questions and things you didn't understand and it is good to find someone to discuss it with you.

About reading preferences; as I told you before I am new to this whole reading things, at first I was in love with psychology books, but after joining Goodreads beside the support of one of my friends I find myself craving to read everything ( hope it is not just a temporary feeling xD )

Ahh recommendation, I would say a brief History of time by Stephen Hawking it is a mixture of an autobiography and cosmology book.

I hope that I answer all of your questions, and I made the answer as long as possible as a retaliation xD
