And except for those which were published as individual works, many of those need deletion from the database altogether.

Antonomasia | 514 comments I just replaced one in it, #44, Mouthful of Birds by Samanta Schweblin (short story collection), with the now-separated audio/podcast Toward Happy Civilization (individual short story from the collection), which it looks as if he did read. Toward... seems like it's probably one for deletion.
But I don't really know anything about these readings and it's a fairly big project to check everything, so leaving it for someone else to oversee.

Katherine (athryn) | 336 comments According to the topic I started back when the podcast appeared, unless the short story has been published separately, they're not books, and should be merged into their originating series:

Edit: whoops, I see Rivka already posted about it.

I was about to just delete the series since there's already a listopia for it, does anyone have any objections? As far as I can tell, it doesn't qualify as a series under the guidelines.

But it does make it easier to find the records needing deletion/merging.

Emily | 17633 comments I have been working on it over the last few days, as many of the episodes have been added since they were last deleted (which is why some of the numbers are skipped, as I have been removing them from the series as I've gone along). If you would, just wait and I will delete the series after going through the rest of them.

Katherine (athryn) | 336 comments Okay, I started to go through and match/merge them myself, but I'll hold off. I'll go back to my Sturgeon Award project instead!

I swear, it feels like a never ending task. I do an occasional sweep by searching by Burton as a narrator, but every week it feels like more pop up.

B. P. Rinehart (ken_mot) | 3 comments I'm glad I found this when before, I started to pick fights. In these cases, less is more. If the Levar Burton-stuff is being liquidated, editions--and alas--reviews need to be deleted instead of being further backlogged and creating more confusion. There needs to be a general notice put out on the homepage, so at least people can't claim ignorance.

Would not this be easier instead of merging editions and creating more confusion (and having folks go back undoing people's work)? At least, knowing this, I won't further undue anybody's edits, but I strongly encourage deletion not combining.

If a short story is published with its own ISBN or ASIN then it is automatically a book.
We cannot pick an ISBN of a collection and designate it as a short story.
I use many resources to see if the story is published outside of its collection. If it is, then it is most likely a book.

For the policy of deletion vs. merging or the functionality of reviews, you should let Goodreads know your concerns. They won't see them in this group discussion.

B. P. Rinehart (ken_mot) | 3 comments I originally thought you were vandalizing, I had already reported and undid another person who was recklessly combing totally different books together--for a moment I thought you were doing the same, but I came on here to be sure and found this thread.

For most of the Levar Burton Reads it is doubtful that they are published singularly or have separate ISBN numbers, which is why I recommend deletion instead of combining. And I mean deleting specific editions that were created just for Levar Burton Reads--not entire book entries. How would we go about getting in contact with Goodreads directly about this?
