Well, well, well! Looks like the Indian Readers have chosen a perfect summer read!

Or, have they?

I think this image sums it up pretty well.

Blurb:

No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.

Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.

But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one.

Soon to be a major motion picture produced by Reese Witherspoon, Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine is the smart, warm, and uplifting story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey.

Deepika Booksy (deepamal) | 1208 comments I love this book... Had read a paperback...

Rakhi (rakhiwellnessbooks) | 740 comments The expectations are too high. I couldn't finish Becoming though

Under my Lantern (undermylantern) | 5 comments I loved this book. One of my rare 5 stars.. will get an excuse to reread it with everyone

Pallavi (bookfetisher) started...
I thought Eleanor might be like Britt Marie or Ove... but no she is something different...
And I have a gut feeling that her story will make me sad

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
Can't say anything for the fear or giving our spoilers ..
but I surely do say..this is one of the rare books that I haven't forgotten the plot of.
it is that dramatic and tenacious.

Suditi (the_book_farer) | 69 comments I completed a few pages. This book is unlike all the books I have read, very different. Also, I haven't came across any of the characters like Eleanor yet. I don't know how it is going to end.

Kritikal Reading (kritika_narula) | 3 comments At first, Eleanor reminded me a lot of Holden from The Catcher in the rye. But she grows on you- as does the rest of the story! I wrote about the book here: https://www.hookedtobooks.com/eleanor...

Sharath | 51 comments am in chapter 4... I just don't have any feelings about it yet.. :)

Pallavi (bookfetisher) In chapter 13..
Except Eleanor, everyone seems to be having a normal past.
Yet Raymond's life seems pretty secret, though we meet his mother. I think he is keeping a secret...

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
am so hoping for a sequel ☺️

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
Have read above both .. didn't exactly remind me of those ..

if you consider the ending , haven't met someone like her , combining both qualities ..

Suditi (the_book_farer) | 69 comments On chapter 22..... Eleanor has changed and she's trying to indulge in normal life. I am very happy for her. Raymond is also likeable. I don't like Eleanor's mother at all. She is kind of scary but I still don't understand what she did. She is in prison right?

Pallavi (bookfetisher) Finished it.
A 5 star read for me...
I loved the book, though Eleanor was not what I expected.
I just loved the way the story was told.

+1. Also, on how we judge people. Sometimes our judgement is right and people turn out to be good and at others it is completely opposite.

Yessss!!! I completed it a few days ago and I don't know how to describe it but the bus scene was one of my favorites.

Nidhi Kumari Finished. Now it’s on my favourite shelf. But I must say end really surprised me.

Pentastic | 100 comments I'm on chapter 9 and I should come here later 'cause this place is full of spoilers! :p

Soham | 7 comments I hadn't been reading fiction recently, but I am glad I picked it up. Loved it thoroughly!! I finished it only a few sittings. The Good Days, Bad Days, Better Days is done beautifully. And her journey is so subtle, at first it feels like nothing, but slowly it snowballed.
All in all, excellent read.

Agree.

Shall read again, some day

Barbara (boingboing) | 14 comments Every company I've ever worked for has had at least one Eleanor - the socially awkward and unapologetically unusual woman that nobody quite understands. The book made me stop and think more about why we shouldn't assume they are just 'odd' and to consider that there might be really good reasons for their unusual ways.

I'm conscious that it's also a very British book. I wondered if any of the social references were hard to non-Brits to understand.

Priyanka This is a beautiful book.. loved reading it...

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47116 comments Mod
hi Barbara .. I guess as most Indians are steeped in British culture , we may not find it hard to understand. Atleast I didn't find it a deterrent .

Nidhi Kumari Hi Barbara, I agree with you, that this book makes us stop and think about people we pass as nutters but many people just don’t read so a movie should be made. To spread the awareness about being sensitive toward such people and also about mental health ( that they want help, and situation can be controlled).

yes, we are ☺️

message 46: by Selva (new)

Selva | 3391 comments was waiting for all the opinions. Had read 10% but couldn't connect with Eleanor. She knows twitter, instragram ..n all social media apps to check the presence of that guy she fancies initially but doesn't know if she needs a desktop/laptop. I couldn't connect for the major part with Ove in A man called Ove too. It got better in the last 1/4th. Thought this was something like that. Will give it another go.

Venkatachalam (chalam) | 1 comments I liked this book. Just finished. There are some good lines of poetic brilliance. I worked with a completely different Eleanor. There are so many Eleanors from UK just like so many Svetlanas from Russia.

Shakti Singh Rathore (rathoreshakti) Bought my copy today.

Kavitha | 13 comments I am almost close to finish reading this book, heard so much about the twist at the end. A nice read so far.

Pranoti | 1 comments Lovely book! I am sure many of us could relate to one or the other characteristic of Eleanor. I certainly did! Loved the ending too, not what I was expecting.
