SOLVED. SciFi Series with Genetics and Space travel

I read a series in the last 10 years about a group of genetically enhanced humans who escaped earth. They traveled to another planet and created a new society. It was mostly men. In one of the later books, It was discovered that there were also canine genetic humans who were mates for them. One of the canines reconnects with her lost love when he boarded her space craft. I remember more, but it's a jumble mess and I'm not sure when said events happened. Like one of the men tried to bring their bride home but one of the elders of the society tried to kill her before the truth could become know. Can anyone help?
