The Rhythm of War is slated for late 2020 / early 2021 right now... Sanderson has been working on the outlines since January... I think he has Rhythm of War laid out, but is still working on Szeth's book... he needs to figure out everything that needs to happen in book 4 so that the first story arc can end in book 5 before he starts writing in earnest... that and Skyward #2 re-writes/edits are the majority of Sanderson's plans for the next 18 months... altho I assume Skyward is about done by now, since it releases in November... Sanderson posted an update on reddit in March/April I think... and a request for song suggestions while writing...

Chapter 12
I love Clef by now and Gregor reminds me in a way of Commander Taskin from To Ride Hell's Chasm. So hellbent on justice. I trust him though, despite his seeming stiffness. And I love the way he seems to irritate his family and discomfit his people. (view spoiler)

Love it!!! The exact comparison I made with Gregor! He will grow up a bit soon, or not don’t know for sure....lol.

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments @Daniel - so you thought about Taskin too!! That's great! They do resemble each other in that righteousness and drive for justice right. :))

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments @Daniel - by chapter 17 I was convinced about what Clef is. But then I may be wrong and it will all blow up in my face.

Definitely. Glad you're enjoying it.

Daniel | 1534 comments Funny I guess I never knew what Grimdark was until Scott used it in a sentence! Anyway, this was my introduction to Robert Bennett, I will be reading more of his books post haste! Really enjoying this book. It hits roughly the halfway point and just starts gettin’ better and better.
This magic system is quite excellent. It is mostly a straight takeaway from old computer programming but it is really well thought out.

Really enjoyed this book and think it was a lot of fun. More importantly, really looking forward to Shorefall! Only reason I didn’t give five stars is cuz I usually wait for the next book to see if I really like it, or it was just a temporary hormonal thing..😂😂

It's interesting how all of us have different theories about what will happen next. :)

I'm with you on this Daniel, regarding the feel of the ending.

Daniel | 1534 comments I am glad I am going to have to wait a few months for the next book. I think the overall level of enjoyment will be force multiplied by the anticipation factor!

Agreed! As much as I love binge reading a series. There's something great about finally reading a book you've been anticipating for months.

Yes the newness of this take on Magic is quite refreshing. Piers Anthony did smth a bit similar in Fractal in the 80’s...damn I am a dinosaur...😂😂😂

Yea... sooo much happens in this book, that it's hard to go back and talk to people who are 5/10/20 chapters behind...

I don't know how to read a book slowly... I either finish it in a blink, or it's not holding my attention...

Daniel | 1534 comments I agree with that. I don’t like reading multiple books at the same time!

Daniel | 1534 comments Well at least no rampant elder abuse...yet.

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments @Iain I used to be the same a few years ago, I would read the same thing for hours on end and finish a book in a day. Recently I prefer to read a few things at once and switch it up, picking up whatever I fancy at the time. I've done a few BRs with a schedule before, where everyone reads a few chapters a day and that worked well for discussion.

I agree that loads happens in this book. At least so far, there doesn't seem to be a clear beginning or middle, just lots of shorter action sequences so I find there's lots of little things I have opinions on, rather than a few big events.

@Daniel I'm really enjoying Sancias character development. I like that she seems so real. She's genuinely scared a lot and that's okay. I don't like it as much when the hero is unafraid of everything and ready and ready to take on the world. Sancia knows she's not the biggest, baddest thing on the streets.

LOL

I was at a Guns and Roses show when they were nobody. The place they played was called the living room and for good reason since it wasn't much larger. Literally under 150 people at the show and it was packed. Also saw Jane's addiction at a place that held about 500 people. Again nobody knew who they were back then.

Daniel | 1534 comments yeah these kids haven’t lived yet....

@Charlie yes Bennett has a very realistic writing style and the emotions feel very real. Since roughly 25% and onwards I never had a single issue with smth pulling me out of the story. Sancia is awesome. I have smth about Orso buried under one of the spoiler tags. Berenice is great.

I've done a few scheduled reading BRs, and they tend to work out for awhile, until I start saving up to read more, or get ahead of schedule and have to wait awhile...

This book was great... some books feel like the author doesn't let things happen because the reveals need to be saved for the finale... that's definitely not the case here...

Charlie (charlieridley) | 5750 comments @Iain that's true, I like all the reveals, it's keeping me interested.

Daniel | 1534 comments Totally agree about the reveals. They felt very natural not forced at all. Super pacing and so on. Uphill for the first half and then mostly downhill until the finish.

Laura (lauradragonchild) | 6554 comments @Charlie - this book becomes practically unputdownable in the second half! I'm waiting for you to reach the end.
