How would you feel/do if you couldn't have children?

In the book The Kite Runner Amir and Soraya couldn't have any children and were unsure whether they wanted to adopt children.
How would you react? Or what would you do about your situation?

[Amber]

If I was to not be able to have kids and I wanted kids of my own, I would just adopt a child. I would be very upset and probably be in a state of depression because I cannot bare a child.

[Emilee]

I would've redeemed myself even more by adopting children from Kabul because when Amir went back to Kabul his people thought that he only came here to sell of his father's place to make more money and go back to America leaving them to suffer. Not only that he discovered that all the children were living in orphanages that barely had enough beds for all of them.
