How many years ago was "several years ago"Can you describe the cover? Were the stories all by one author or by several different authors?
It was about 5 or more years ago. I think it was around the same time I got "Firebirds", another collection of short stories. Each story was by an different author. I don't remember the cover, though. :{
I found it!! It's called Realms of the Dragons: The Year of Rogue Dragons. It also looks like it was all by the same author. So faulty memory on my part.
If I remember right, each story was about a different type/color of dragon. I'll try to write as much as I can remember. It was several years ago I had this book. This book was def for young adults.
One was about a magical land that was getting it's magic sapped away by mysterious and invincible creatures, causing the land to die. The main character summons a god, and asks him for a weapon to defeat these creatures. The god gives him a weapon - one that will change his shape each time he uses it. The dagger becomes a part of his body, and every time he uses the tooth/claw/weapon it changes him into something else. First he turns to an orc and is attacked by a nearby farmer. Eventually when he turns into a dragon, he likes it so much that he tears off the claw that is the weapon and starts life as a dragon, far away.
Another story is about a pirate crew on an island. They're looking for a legendary stone that turns out to be an egg. They find it in a volcano. The mother dragon takes the ship hostage and eventually they return the egg.
Monks are attacked by a shadow dragon. He takes each one by one to his shadowy swamp realm. I don't remember the rest.
A girl is to deliver a book from her master to a friend. Along the way she is attacked by, I think, a bear. An ice dragon saves her and takes her to it's lair. It tells her to kill an orc that is trying to take it's treasure. The girl eventually finds out that the ice dragon is an imposter and the orc is the hatchling of the real ice dragon. She saves it and when the mother returns, it turns out she is the one the book was meant to go to.
A group (or maybe one) of thieves is hired by a lady to rob another lady. Her house is full of dangerous enchantments and traps. They are caught by her and she hires them to rob the original client. It turns out they are dragon sisters having a go at one another.
A group is set against an emerald wyrm. They soon realize it is trapped, just like them. They set it free and it destroys it's former masters.
A group of dwarves are in an old ruin. One is an apprentice. They are overrun by shadowy enemies. They activate a stone/golem dragon to save the day.
Turtle dragon in a massive lake. They know mankind is bad and avoid them at all costs. Also a sickness is spreading among them - a madness. When a female goes against the others and saves a drowning man, who was really a distraction so other men could steal her eggs she just layed. She kills the man and goes mad.
That's all I can remember for now. I really want to read this book again, as I remember enjoying it quite so. Sadly I lost it through time. Any help is appreciated. I will try to search on my own for now.
