Alyssa "Aly" Diane (alydiane0) | 20 comments The Kite Runner is really good! I read it a couple of years ago.

I've heard it's good. I'll finally get a chance to tackle it this summer!

message 7: by Kalie (new)

Kalie Black (kalie_suzanne) | 11 comments I'm actually going to recommend We Hunt the Flame, it's also a Debut Author, which is another prompt. (;

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura (lexeegee) I am reading Black Leopard Red Wolf by Marlon James. It is set in Africa

message 9: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Lara I’ll be reading Home Fires, which is by an Australian author.

message 10: by Martha (new)

Martha | 9 comments I'm thinking of maybe reading a Japanese manga

message 11: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Tobin (jesstobin) | 17 comments The Island of Sea Women has been popping up a lot on my feed.

message 12: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 33 comments I already did Dragon Pearl for this one but I’m going to hopefully read We Hunt The Flame this summer!

message 13: by Jill (new)

Jill (jills_bookish_life) | 3 comments Just finished The Girl with Seven Names - excellent read about a woman who defected from North Korea as a 17 year old.

Ann (Inky Labyrinth) (inkylabyrinth) I read a few amazing novels from around the world earlier this year, including The Architect's Apprentice (set in old Istanbul), The City of Brass (a fantasy set in ancient Cairo), My Sister, the Serial Killer set in modern Nigeria, and Sightseeing (set in modern Thailand). I gave all of these four stars!

I think I'm going to use Prayers for the Stolen for this one, as it is set in Mexico.

message 15: by Erin (new)

Erin (navysaylorgirl) | 16 comments For this, I read The Bonesetter's Daughter. It's a story within a story, and while Ruth lives in modern day San Francisco, the majority of the story is that of her mother and grandmother, which takes place in China roughly a century ago.

This book really good 👍🏼

I’m plan to read the author second book under this category: A Thousand Splendid Suns

message 18: by aliceshields (new)

aliceshields | 22 comments May I suggest:
1. Katherine Boo’s Behind the Beautiful Forevers: Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity (set in Mumbai)

2. Madeleine Thien’s Do Not Say We Have Nothing, cross between past (during a tumultuous period in China’s history) and present (Vancouver).

message 19: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (jkuzniak) | 1 comments I may be way misinterpreting this but what about a sci fi, like Magic for Liars? It's based at a magic school... clearly different from my culture. Lol

message 20: by Ilsen (new)

Ilsen | 33 comments That’s more like a different setting or reality altogether. I think they mean it in a more diverse representation or a culture that is different from your own. For example, a culture that is different from my own is Asian culture because I have no correlation with it. A culture you are completely unfamiliar with.

message 21: by Louise (new)

Louise (louisekf) I just finished Trail of Broken Wings by Sejal Badani. It takes place in both India and the US.

message 22: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 35 comments I didn't pick this one as my book for this challenge but I'm currently reading one set in Australia Secrets From The Dust I've only just started it but it starts well

Kate | 22 comments For this challenge I am going to read Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. This story takes place in Nigeria.

message 27: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine | 8 comments Erin wrote: "For this, I read The Bonesetter's Daughter..."

I read that years ago and really enjoyed it. I should re-read it sometime. It's probably my favourite Amy Tan book.

message 28: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine | 8 comments I recently read The Boat People by Sharon Bala and really enjoyed it.

If you like that you will probably like Purple Hibiscus as well. I read it last week and really enjoyed it.

This author has been on my To Read list since PBS's The Great American Read. Her book, Americanah, made the list. So far, I'm really enjoying Half of a Yellow Sun. I will definitely add Purple Hibiscus to my To Read list. Thanks!

message 31: by Kate (new)

Kate | 22 comments Yesterday, I finished Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and cannot recommend it enough.

message 32: by Jade (new)

Jade Violet (goodreadscomjade_violet) I read Midnight Hunter. It was under romance but left me massively conflicted. Takes place in 1963 in East Berlin two years after the wall has been erected. Between a high ranking Stasi officer who fought for Germany in WWII and a young east Berliner out to do anything to gain her freedom and rid the oppressive regime.

message 33: by Sarah (new)

Sarah McMillan | 22 comments I just finished Curse of the Demon Dog, set in ancient Eygpt.
