Mick Sherman | 6 comments One young man writes about another - I'll call them narrator and hero. When they are still kids, about 1945 or thereabouts, the hero shows the narrator a photo of a pile of corpses at Belsen (all the private parts airbrushed, mind) and tells how it shocked him. Hero later gets expelled from posh school for sexual indiscretion. He is bisexual. Hero commits suicide but leaves behind a novel called, I think, 'A new Satyricon'.

In this novel the hero-narrator falls in love at first sight but his beloved is parted from him and in pursuit he enters a hotel called 'the Western World'. Some people vow to help him in his search. Holocaust themes come in and it ends in despair and darkness.
