After Tech, 'The Modern World' is a crap album imo, the lyrics in most of the songs sound like a child's written them.

A band that have promised so much but never reached the heights of this. The rest of the album is fair to plodding so whatever they were on for this one wore off way too quick.

Actually, there are a couple of other OK tracks on the moose-hunting munchkin's debute album, but this one stands out by a mile. I particularly like the 'chunka chunka' guitar moment (you'll know it when you hear it).

Ridicule is nothing to be scared of.

Not only the one great track on the album, but the only decent track they ever recorded... (See also Grand Funk Railroad's Footstompin' Music, The Black Crowes' Soul Singing, Racing Cars' They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, etc., etc.)

Class song Gordon, and fitting with the recent death of Brian Walden.

Personally speaking, as a contented owner of a copy of 2nd Coming, i quite like it.....but i maybe the only one! I think 10 Story Love Song, Love Spreads & Straight To The Man, are all good songs to my ears....whatever they are about! However, apparently this song was the album's only saving grace..as good as it is...so.....I'm beggin' ya!

From that difficult 2nd album made to order without any time to work the songs live.

I think it's more common to buy an album on the strength of one song and then find that the rest of it is crap.

It's better than his other 'hit'..Crocodile Shoes, anyway! :)

I too struggled with this theme. I recalled three albums that were major disappointments for me (John Grant's latest, The Felice Brothers' "Celebration, Florida" and "The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends"). So then I had to go and listen to them again. Thanks for that! I do like this track even though the title is off (as are many others on the album) and it combines the talents of two fab groups.

A slight drop in numbers this week...but we've got 13 songs to muse over, and 4 votes each this time. Should be an interesting playlist..but not sure if i like any of them myself tho!! Val's link didn't work, so i found a suitable replacement.

Scorpios - Adam And The Ants - Tech
Total Eclipse Of The Heart - Bonnie Tyler - Helen...again!
She Will Be Loved - Maroon 5 - SussexWelsh
The host's comments: Poor Helen isn't having much luck of late...having bagged the hattrick in as many weeks now. But this time, Helen has got a coupla buddies to join her in drowning their sorrows, and er...nice idea Nick..but you might find that trophy flinging it's way back at ya mug, mibbe?! :-S
'Tis odd...but i can't help but think, that if it was our dear Suzy, winning all these wooden spoons..she'd be brimming with joy and proudly displaying that 'trophy' for all to see!!!
Bit of a weird round..wth some rotten stinkers....gawd knows what the rest of the albums are like.....um.......let's move on shall we! :-S

It needs to have three wooden spoons on it tho'! Yay, a hat trick, what an achievement. I really didn't expect anyone to vote for Bonnie Tyler so I'm not surprised.

Hello one and all.
First up, thanks to Spacepig for holding the fort during my absence on Wednesday, much obliged to you sah.
I had a great night in Cardiff, the weather was perfect, the city is lovely...and i drank too much! Walked loads, even popped inside the Castle while i was there....and in the evening, headbanged away to the muddied trippy sounds of PPC...and made it back home again. Bought a coupla tour editions of their first two albums, and got them signed by all four band members, & even had a chat with a coupla of them. It's been a while since i'd been to any gig...nice to get out of house...and reassuringly...my limited vision didn't pose too many problems with finding my way about at night, i even had to 'guide' my inebriated brother back to the hotel afterwards.....a case of a blind man leading the blind drunk, i think?! Bloody typical!
Okay then...onwards and upwards, it's the Tech meister's turn:
'The One Great Track From A Duff Album'
Straightforward enough, although i must admit...i'm struggling to think of a nom for this one....but i'll find something.
Noms and links as per usual please..the more the merrier, thank you.
Have a fine and lovely week folks...i really really mean it....man! :)
