Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I'm going to be nosey now and ask if you order much stuff from Amazon, apart from ebooks of course.

I seem to order loads from snacks I can't find in the shops, electrical items, housewares and everything to the kitchen sink, well nearly, I did get my dish drainer from them. A lot of stuff I can't find in the shops any more so I find them a godsend.

What sort of things do you get and how often do you order?

I've just looked and I've placed 86 orders in the past 6 months, that's including ebooks. I always use the free delivery and have usually had delivery within 2 - 3 days, which I think is brilliant.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I have placed 35 orders in the last 6 months, and a lot of those were Kindle books. I get most of my birthday and christmas presents from them because they deliver to the recipients and I don't have to post them. I also get crafting stuff and DVDs. And stuff I can't get easily in Ireland. I get supersaver free shipping if I can, and if the shipping is really expensive or not available I use Parcel Motel.

Richard Martinus | 551 comments Normally out of the way and out of print books for me and mystery jigsaw puzzles for Mrs Martinus for Christmas. Only ordered a measly 10 items so far this year though, and one of those was a cot blanket.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Dog food, sorry for the local shop losing our order, but I can seldom park outside the shop, and 15kg sacks or even 18kgs when they do an offer are very heavy, so counting our fuel etc its cheaper and easier to have them deliver. Odd and ends of craft stuff too.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Two or three times a year I'll order all sorts to bring away with us. Less now we're in Baku but when we were in Nigeria I'd order everything from soup mixes to bales of loo roll.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments For me 11 orders in the past six months. All my ebook purchases are on my wife's account though. Mine's mainly music. Biggest item: an ottoman bed which was half the price of any conventional shop. Also, a self retracting hose-pipe which I wish I'd bought years ago, and an extractor fan for the shower. All free delivery.

Does naked wines count? Recently bought a box of twelve, because they sent me a voucher for £60 off.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments That's the thing, even if you can find the thing you want in the shops, if it's big and heavy the trouble is getting it home. Also if you can get it in a shop you can bet it's in a different town and I don't drive so I have to add the expense of fares on to the price let alone the difficulty of getting stuff onto a bus.

I've got to say the prices are better on Amazon too. I've saved loads. I'm keeping the cardboard box manufacturers in a job too with the amount I order. I must admit I do buy from ebay as well.

Tim | 8539 comments Only essentials, like printer ink. If it's stuff that I can source locally at reasonable cost, It'll try to get it locally, if for no other reason than it gets me out of the house.

Otherwise, I buy very little.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I'd buy stuff locally if I could find it in the shops but there is so little choice in shops nowadays. Gone are the days when you could go in a department store and more or less buy everything you wanted.
Even the department stores that are around seem to carry only a fraction of what they used to. I suppose the internet has spoiled us really.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I wish I could get stuff delivered directly here at a reasonable price.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Patti (baconater) wrote: "I wish I could get stuff delivered directly here at a reasonable price."

I thought you would be able to get stuff delivered there easier than Nigeria, you surprise me.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Was impossible in Nigeria. Here, it's just stupidly expensive.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Since March - 119 Kindle Books, fish food for the Koi carp, lots of crafting materials, a couple of cd's, torch, a lamppost, new ear pads for the headphones(after Holly ate the originals), 1kilo of cinnamon, plant food, and blades for the jig saw.

This reminds me of The Generation Game!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments A lampost? Don't the council provide them...?

message 15: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Wheesht! Phil wanted a full sized gas effect one for his new patio, we already had a smaller triple headed model but he set his heart on this special one.
The soul doesn't ask for much and it is nicer than the council ones which since they put the energy saving bulbs in give off as much light as a candle in a black bottle ;@)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments In 2014, I've ordered 84 things including ebooks. Including a load of things for my sister's 21st.

No cuddly toy though :(

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments Not a lot, although I do check out the prices.
At the end of last year we bought a big running machine. The shop/makers had an Amazon store and it was cheaper via Amazon than directly with them.
I like buying my CDs off them now they do the rip thingie. You can listen to your CD within seconds of buying it.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments They seem to sell just about anything you can think of and lots of things you never knew existed.

Just looking around the room that I'm sitting in I can see a lot of the things have come from Amazon. Including the doorbell which my postman loves because it's an intercom type one so he doesn't have to stand there like a lemon wondering if I'm in or not once he's rung it. I'm in a first floor flat.

I buy those from charity shops and boot sales. Her nibs prefers automated kids toys, at the moment Fireman Sam and Rory are her favourites.
I don't browse very much (apart from the book store) Phil spends hours looking at building stuff. His next wish is for an electric wheelbarrow, something I never knew existed.
I felt a bit guilty about buying so many books but when I checked I've read 104 of them.

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I'm addicted to shopping at Amazon. It's the first place I look, and then I'll typically go to EBAY. I opted for Amazon Prime for inclusive next day delivery, so that's given me another reason to buy from them. Mind you, I guess I don't buy that much because I've only placed 32 orders in the past 6 months.

I don't feel guilty about buying books now as quite a few have been free which means I can spend a bit more on the paid for ones. Before I had the Kindle I used to spend at least £5 a week on books from the charity shops, but I don't spend anywhere near that now on ebooks and I read a lot more. I'm so glad I've got a Kindle.

Also, thanks to this group, I've been introduced to so many great new authors and made new friends. I feel so lucky.

R.M.F. Brown | 2124 comments I can even buy my favourite pretzels from amazon.

message 24: by Bookworm (new)

Bookworm | -183 comments I am amazed that this year I bought 189 items, I buy ebooks, the kids buy paper books. Phone covers, screen covers. It's their to-go shop for everything.I prefer to buy local.

message 25: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments When I checked 'Manage your Kindle' to see how many books I'd ordered there was no differentiation between free and paid for books so I have no idea how many were free:(

Like you Vanessa I used to buy from charity shops but also bought from supermarkets every time I went shopping. The Bookpeople were another outlet for my obsession. Phil loves Kindle as much as me ( even though he never reads) as he no longer has to build me bookcases.

Michelle (Spiderg1rl) (spiderg1rl) | 734 comments My account says 141 orders have taken place since the start of 2014, but I am getting married in a couple of days and eBay and Amazon have been my holy grail in getting everything I need.

Although I'm now trying to order as little as possible lately after it took Amazon Logistics a whole 5 days to deliver my most recent order. I'm trying to stick to digital only orders or stuff I can have ordered to an Amazon Locker.

message 27: by Mo (last edited Sep 03, 2014 10:44AM) (new)

Mo (mobroon) | 729 comments I have made 63 orders but opted for prime a long time ago. These include all sorts of things like, Kinetic tape, steam mop, picalli, salt and pepper grinders, and bread baking equipment. Only 23 books added to Kindle from that. Where have the rest of my books come from? I used to buy books every time I went to pick up my hubby at the airport but then it changed to WH Smiths which is an appalling bookshop. I couldn't find anything there so thank goodness for the Kindle.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments Many years ago, when I was working, I used to buy my books from WH Smith and I used to read books from only a few well known authors. It ended up that I had more of their books than they did I think. Then when I was made redundant I bought them from charity shops.

Now with the Kindle I mostly read books from Indie authors, most of them from this group, and bloody good books they are too. I spend less but read a lot more nowadays.
