message 18: by Marcus (new)

Marcus Sally wrote: "Finishing up the first Farseer trilogy."

How is that read? I have that on my read list. But probably won't be able to get to it for a few months. Considering I have about over dozen unread books on my bookshelf. (I.E. Narnia, the giver, Hitchhiker's guide, pandora's star,) and thats not including the handful of ebooks I have.

Pretty much I want to read the farseer trilogy badly. But i have a bunch of reads lying around my house before I go out and buy another book.

Robin Hobb's an author in her own class.
I liked Assassin's Apprentice, LOVED Royal Assassin and nearly burnt my copy of Assassin's Quest. She experiments alot with how she writes; plot choices, viewpoints, etc. Sometimes it makes for really good reading, sometimes, not so much. She's also the most brutal writer this side of grimdark. Definitely worth the read.

message 20: by Jack (new)

Jack (Pernicious) I just started The Penitent Assassin ... now I have shiver's from how easy going this read is when within the first few chapter's the MC has chopped off an arm ( to get some jewelry, literally crushed some people and took some eye-balls, and this has happened all within a few hour's... Love it' lol I really am not sick and wrong but this author just has this moving so smoothly, ya just don't really see it until you re-read just to make sure this really happened.
I hope this novel can hold up to its fast start' looking forward to this read!

message 21: by Joseph (new)

Joseph | 1651 comments Still with the Expanse books -- wrapped up Abaddon's Gate, am now reading The Churn: An Expanse Novella, and when I finish that (possibly later tonight; else tomorrow) I'll be heading straight into Cibola Burn.

After that, I think something historical -- The Long Ships by Frans G. Bengtsson. And after that maybe some N.K. Jemisin? It's going to be a good month.

message 22: by Tara (new)

Tara (tarabookreads) Shari Kay wrote: "Finally getting to Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, #2) by Brandon Sanderson."

This book is awesome.. one of my all time favorites..

message 23: by Trine (new)

Trine Paulsen Half-Off RagnarokHalf-Off Ragnarok by Seanan McGuire. It is the third book in her urban fantasy InCryptid series. It features a new protagonist Verity Price's brother Alex Price, who studies the biology of the mythical/supernatural cryptids. It features Mcguire's quirky humour and I'm happy to see the fhilarious Aeslin mice again.

message 24: by Jeff (new)

Jeff Fuller Just picked up The Mirror Empire. It's a dense read with lots of unexplained lore, but I am hanging in there because I'm starting to understand some of it.

The sooner you get through the Farseer trilogy, the soon you can get on to The Tawny Man trilogy...it blew my mind! ;-)

message 28: by Scarletine (new)

Scarletine I'm re reading 'The name of the wind' and 'The wise mans fear' by Patrick Rothfuss, in preparation of the new novella 'The slow regard of silent things' based in the same world. Can't wait!

Eli Adelholm (eliadelholm) | 46 comments I have finally gotten around to the last book in The Wheel of Time series, A Memory of Light. And then I have (also finally) begun reading the first book of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series, Mistborn: The Final Empire.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Unpopular opinion time: Xenocide is the best of Card's Ender books so far. Here's my review.

It's on to The Alloy of Law now!

i read that series and my 2 favorites were xenoxide and speaker for the dead. sadly, i later learned more about the brilliant writer and was shocked about his distasteful beliefs and opinions. i'm since boycotting his work. however, the upcoming movie adaptation of, the seventh son, looks awesome!

I had to drag myself kicking and screaming to finish Speaker for the Dead. If these books weren't a gift, I'd have abandoned them long now. I know about his opinions. As long as they don't interfere with his story [which he seems to take pains to ensure that they do], I don't really care. Everyone's entitled to their own thoughts, even if I don't agree with em.

message 38: by Beth (new)

Beth York (bethyork) Ciara wrote: "The Shadow Rising (for the tenth time) by Robert Jordan and A Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss" loved both books. did you enjoy the last 3, wheel of time books by brandon sanderson?

i appreciate how quickly sanderson writes and publishes masterpiece after masterpiece. have you read: elantris? or warbreaker? way of kings?

have you read scott lynch? if you enjoy brent weeks, there's a good chance you will dig scott's, gentleman bastard series.

message 41: by Elise (new)

Elise (ghostgurl) | 1028 comments I finished both The Maze Runner and Speak this past week. Both were really good.

I was going to read Half a King next, but I'm experiencing YA burnout at the moment, having read several this summer, so I'm reading The War of the Worlds instead.

Eli Adelholm (eliadelholm) | 46 comments Beth wrote: "i appreciate how quickly sanderson writes and publishes masterpiece after masterpiece. have you read: elantris? or warbreaker? way of kings?"

Yes, he is quite the productive one, but alas, this will be the first of his books that I am reading. I know I have a bit of catching up to do! But I am behind on basically all the great fantasy authors I really enjoy. There is so much to read and so little time to do it!

Femmy | 166 comments Beth wrote: "however, the upcoming movie adaptation of, the seventh son, looks awesome!"

I just looked up the trailer on YouTube. Is this the one with Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore? It seems that the movie is very different from the series.

message 44: by Michele (new)

Michele This Seventh Son movie is from a book by Joseph Delaney, not Card. It does look like it might be fun.

Beth York (bethyork) Michele wrote: "This Seventh Son movie is from a book by Joseph Delaney, not Card. It does look like it might be fun."
that's great news! i really want to see it.

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished The Alloy of Law.

A much lighter, more fun romp than the original Mistborn books. It doesn't try to be as epic or unique as Mistborn: The Final Empire did. But definitely Sanderson at his best.

Here's my review.

Time to finish:
Maplecroft (The Borden Dispatches #1) by Cherie Priest

message 48: by Andrew✌️ (last edited Sep 08, 2014 02:07PM) (new)

Andrew✌️ (andrew619) | 58 comments Yesterday I finished Mostly Harmless: funny, but I think that the first two are the only one that deserves a read. Now I returned to the adventure and I'm reading Treasure.

message 49: by Amy (new)

Amy Sanderson | 129 comments Now that I've finished Half a King, I'm back to The Relic Guild. Enjoying it so far, although it's making me wish I had more reading time, because there's such a lot going on that I keep forgetting what's happened!

message 50: by Jacinta (new)

Jacinta Hoare | 21 comments Just finished the Riddle Master trilogy. Just didn't get it. People say it's good, I obviously missed the point.
