30.1 - Amanda A's task: Like Letters

Read two books, one from Book 1 and one from Book 2.
The books must have a combined page total of at least 500 pages.

Book 1: Read a book where every word in the title begins with the same letter. The title must contain at least three words. Subtitles may be excluded. For the purposes of this task, an ampersand (&) will be considered an A.
Ex: The Thirteenth Tale; The Two Towers; Love's Labour's Lost; Sun, Sand, Sex; Ashes and Arsenic; Murder Most Maine

Book 2: Read a book by a single author whose initials are the same letter. All initials count.

Nicole | 1295 comments Are we allowed to include subtitles? I was wondering about this title:

Wonder Woman: Warbringer

Subtitles may be excluded or included. The task requires at least three words in the title (before the colon) so this book will not work. Sorry!

Well then it is good I found a back up. I am not sure if you realize this but there are very few titles longer than 2 words that have the same letter in every word. I think you listed most of them!

Pam (bluegrasspam) I agree with Nicole that there are not very many books that fit this criteria. I did find a few others: Sit! Stay! Speak!, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life; The Third Translation, The Tale Teller, and When We WakeThe Time Thief (several different books)

Sara G | 907 comments I managed to find one on my TBR list that meets the criteria for book 1, in case this helps anyone else. Traitor to the Throne

Shouldn't the instructions state "Subtitles ARE excluded" if we can't use them in the three words?

Bird by Bird is one of my favorites! I may need to reread it for this task. THANKS!

Do you have a special way of searching because I have tried a few searches and can't find a way to search effectively

Bea DLMRose, thank you for the listing. The book I had planned, I was going to have to purchase as it was not in my two library systems. However, I found one in your list that is available to me without purchase.

The title must contain at least three words, so there should be three words that start with the same letter before the colon if there is a subtitle. Subtitles may be excluded or included if it begins with the same letter.

I had this problem too. I ended up listening to an audiobook and scrolling through my calibre library of 10,000 books until I found one. Fortunately I found one that started with B. Just dumb luck though. I don't think I really WANT to read it, but I own it and I think I can read it faster that I can find another one I'm interested in.

Brothers by Bond

and I also found
Bound by Blood - there a few with this title

YIKES! This isn't a complaint. It's a clever task.

Nicola | 1360 comments What is the ruling on authors with names like Daphne du Maurier please? I think it's classed as D & D the same way as it is filed in libraries but i want to have it confirmed before posting.

From the FAQ:
AUTHORs
1. If a task calls for author’s initials, what name do I use for the last initial?
While there are great variations in names, we work with the general rule that the author’s last name is the final word in the name that is preceded by a space. We realize that this may not be technically accurate in every case, but this is the default rule.

Based on the SRC default rule, Maurier is the last name since it is the final word in the name preceded by a space.
