Shelf: Fantasy/UF/Paranormal
Book: My Soul to Take
Pages: 432
Date read: 6/25/19

How it fits: MPG Fantasy
Review: I loved the first two books in this series, but it fell off a bit in book 3, and I struggled with parts of this book, book 4. I'm kind of glad there isn't a book 5 (not the best tone to end a series on). The series started with a very fresh, original feel - immortal African men and the disasters that ensue when they mingle with the population. The ending felt forced though, even unfinished, with the lingering question of how the mortal population would fair in this new, co-mingled world. That said, Tananarive's writing remained strong throughout, and I was vested in the characters, so I enjoying learning about this last leg of their path even if I was unsatisfied with the result. I'd read more of her work.

Namita (-namita) | 650 comments Hi Team, an FYI....

Wolf hasn't been here in 15 days. I sent her a message to see if she was doing okay. I didn't get a response, so I went to Ezi.
I hope everything is good and she just got busy with life.

How it fits: MPG Suspense
Review: I haven't read a pure suspense novel in awhile - I'd nearly forgotten how a well written one can grab you and hold you. The is the second novel I've read by Sabine Durrant, and I think I'm now officially a fan. The main character, Gabby, was so real, I never once doubted her thoughts or perspective as the story unfolded. Her heartbreak over her marital issues was palpable, and when she fell under suspicion, I was anxiously waiting for her name to be cleared. And then...the last chapter was completely unexpected! I wanted to flip back a few chapters (virtually, it was an audiobook :)) to figure out how I missed the clues! Loved it. I'll be adding more Sabine Durrant novels to my mountainous TBR this weekend.

Shelf: Suspense & Thriller
Book: Maisie Dobbs
Pages: 309
Read: 6/28
Rating: 4 ★'s
Review: I really enjoyed this book. What happened to Lynch, broke my heart, but than war does that. Billy and Maisie had such a good relationship. Maisie's rise from a house help to becoming an intelligent and a professional private investigator is very impressive. Overall a really good read.

I asked that question and Ezi responded that NO, a cover image is not enough to satisfy the challenge. She wants the animal to be in the story.

Ezi's response on my question HERE

Book: The 7½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
Pages: 448
Read: 7/3
Rating: ★★★★
Review:
What a beautiful topsy turvy book! Set in a world I hope to never visit! I don't know how to review this book without giving away some major spoilers but let's just say this book gets very T-W-I-S-T-Y (and I love it!). There are parts that are confusing as we meet Aiden across different hosts as they act out the same day with one purpose, to solve the murder of Evelyn Hardcastle. I love that our hosts are all (at times horribly) flawed individuals and their abilities and personalities and pasts all influence how Aiden continues his investigation! I will admit I had NO IDEA about the final twist and I don't really know if tiny clues were there or not. I will have to reread to see what I missed.

Thanks, Namita. :)
Can we check in for more than one at a time because I guess we should be good for Disability and Fantasy as well, right?

message 133: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) | 650 comments Yes, we can. I just couldn’t do at the same time. I’ll ger the stamps tomorrow.
Once we get the Stamps we would be in a pretty good spot. I was looking at our board and the called shelves.

message 134: by Alex (new)

Alex Cooper | 45 comments Once we get our stamps for the shelves called we'll be 2 spots away from Bingo vertical (Child and Past/Future); 2 spots from Bingo diagonal (Dual Authors and Non-Fiction); and 3 from Bingo horizontal (Horror, 2018-2019, Crime)! So not too far away everyone!

message 135: by Ezi, Factory Superintendent (new)

Ezi Chinny (ezinwanyi) | 16657 comments Mod
If you get a new player, they are not responsible for reading the called shelves before they joined.
You would still be able to apply for your stamps.

The new player is only responsible for the shelves called AFTER they joined

Mandy Sickle (thereadingdiaries) | 1343 comments Ezi would a shifter book count for animals?

message 137: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) | 650 comments Guys, do you want a new player or we are good with 5. We are already in a good spot, so...I figured we would just continue with the 5 of us.
I sent Ezi a message about continuing as a team of 5.

Book: The Murmur of Bees
Pages: 471
Read: 7/8

Review:
This book took me completely by surprise! The language captivated me and the multiple viewpoints that end in just the old man's voice was amazing. I loved the characters and how they grew and changed and shaped each other's stories. I also love that the bees were a main point. A constant buzz throughout the book, from the moment we first see Simonopio as a newborn covered in a swarm of bees, to them talking with and teaching him as he grows, a source of wonder and inspiration, of comfort and protection, and ultimately (view spoiler)

Also, have you ever thought you were a pretty decent reader until you are in a challenge and watch someone read like 40 books in one month vs your 12? There is someone in my team who has read 315 books so far this year and I've only read 82! Feeling a little insecure lol

I know the feeling!! I'm a pretty decent reader but I too was part of a team challenge where one of the ladies probably could read circles around me while doing a jig and probably knitting!!
