Justin Roy (darktidings13) | 2 comments Spoiler Alert!!

I'm looking for a Sci-Fi book that I read a while back, but I can't remember the name! Obviously spoilers ahead to those who haven't read the book.

The main character is a down on his luck guy who gets recruited by some mercenary company as an experiment by a Russian (?) scientist. Tech is put in his brain and it allows him to consciously control his bodies autonomous functions.

Super spoilers ahead.

The Russian scientist is a bad guy, and is basing the tech off of a condition naturally occurring in his son.

Any help finding this book would be appreciated. I know it is a part of a series but I can't remember what it was called for the life of me!

Justin, can you give examples of how the main character uses the tech in his brain?

Can you tell us more about the main character - his age, (previous) jobs/skills/interests, what type of problems is he dealing with, personality, family/friends, etc.?

What is the story's time period and location (country/region/city)?

Around what year did you read this book? This will help narrow down the search.

Justin Roy (darktidings13) | 2 comments Main character is youngish (20s and 30s). I think he broke up with a wife/girlfriend at the beginning and was fired from a job. One of the major parts in the book, he uses the tech to beat an extremely hard obstacle course his first try. If I remember correctly, he did things like change how chemicals are released in his body, and control his heart rate, and maybe how well his body absorbed chemicals, but Im not sure about the last one.

Setting was in the US, in a city, maybe NYC. I read the book about 5 or 6 years ago I think, and it is a series.
