I have actually been thinking about rereading the series (well, what we have if it) since watching the last season!

Saar and I are the one who have planned this and we're planning on a schedule of one book every 2 months. And because I can't commit to any big books in August we won't be starting book 2 until the beginning of September. So for book 1 you'll have over 9 weeks to spread it out over if that helps.

The ending to the prologue was creepy! Really intrigued by the mystery of the Others. Also did Gared actually desert the party or do they just think he did? I guess we might never know.

This is my first time reading Grimdark and I got my first taste of it at Will's treachery to stay back instead of helping his leader. Wouldn't have taken him for a coward. Also, they made Bran watch! He's seven!! The Starks seem cruel, (and "cold" lol) and this Lord Stark is really hard on his sons, too. Wanting his three year old to be brave. He needs to chill.
I'm liking Jon Snow. And oh! Wonder what the sign of the direwolf dying means. The end of the Stark rule? Oooh

Viserys is selling off Daenerys (I just noticed their names rhyme!) to Drogo instead of intending to marry her himself as the tradition goes. But it makes sense because he wants Drogo's army. He seems really desperate. I wonder what Drogo's response would be. Probably something unexpected. Daenerys may also be up to something. (hide spoiler)]

I agree with Eddard Stark. His children need to be strong to survive in this cruel world created by Martin. I can say that this series is the most intense series. (hide spoiler)]

I've started and I'm a couple of chapters in, but it's hard to not compare with the series. Do you have problems with that? It's the first time that I'm reading the books. I've started the first one a while back, but didn't continue.

I've been determined not to watch the show until I've read the books for that exact reason. Now the show is finished I want to reread books 1 and 2 and continue with the series so I can finally watch the show.

Through chapter 9 (view spoiler)[ ok, can we talk about Bran's fall for a sec?! I reallyyy hope he survives. But what a sick scene to watch before almost falling to your death. Just ew. He's only seven! I feel I have already said that quite a lot.

I'll be sad now that he probably won't ever be able to climb.

It's sad how Arya is made to feel bad about herself just because she's bad at stitching (and the other things they make the girls do) and looks like her father more. Sansa has her talents but Arya is a good rider and better with numbers. That's something! I think she's cool. Especially how she bonds with Jon so well. Sansa seems really mean how she made that comment about Jon.

Also, I'm soo excited to (view spoiler)[ explore the South and for the Stark siblings to go on to different adventures. Them being spread across the land. Jon, too! Really curious about what goes on with the Night Watch. Aaand Tyrion seems to be up to something.
I love the way he teases his siblings. He probably doesn't like them all that much.

Ooh, speaking of Lannisters, there was always soemthing fishy about them! Them being murderers isn't that surprising. I'm only curious as to what they'll do next. (hide spoiler)]

I definitely want to go back and watch all of them when I'm done reading the whole series. Anybody have a favorite character yet? I'm really liking Arya, Daenerys, Jon Snow, and Tyrion.

Same here! Like Jon Snow the best, and Daenerys and Arya. Bran, too. Tyrion is fun too!

I'm going to try to ignore the fact that I've seen all the seasons and read the books with an open mind ;) Also, because the books differ from the series.

I realy like Tyrion. Always been and always have.

I think Robert Barratheon didn't felt him safe in King's Landing and he needed someone he could trust like Ned. I don't think it would do Ned any good to go at King's Landing. Also, the dire wolf killed by a stack, was a sign of upcoming troubles. I think Catelyn could be right about a bad omen. (hide spoiler)]

Yes, Tyrion is fun! I laugh at a lot of things he says. Bran seems like a sweet kid, too. I'm curious to see where his storyline goes.

(view spoiler)[ I don't trust the king. He's too stupid and self indulgent to rule, and he trusts the Lannisters too much. No wonder he's in debt. And that too half in Lannister's! This is not good.

I like Catelyn's brave move to leave Bran behind and make the journey herself. But I find her a grey character, the way she hates Jon like that. It isn't his fault Eddard lets him live in the castle as his other children.

Arya has caused sooo much trouble. Two deaths...not her fault, but they did happen because of her. She must be blaming herself for Mycah. I wonder if Jon would blame himself for telling her practice sword fighting.
Anyway, I already didn't like Sansa but I'm really mad at her for not speaking up as witness. But I suppose her punishment after this is too great. What would happen now that Lady is dead? If she was supposed to be Sansa's protector...

And oh, Jon. He's such a precious soul. Realizing his priviledge: even as a "bastard" son of a lord, he got to live in a castle and had the luxury of getting sword training. And how he chose to help the other boys at the Watch. Aw. (hide spoiler)]

I have only read the prologue so far. I have been house and pet sitting since the 21st June and it has kept me a lot busier than I was anticipating since the house rabbit is extremely high maintenance and also went off his food. However after tomorrow my friends return and my duties are over so my pace will definitely pick up on this book (and all the others I'm reading).

30% through. (view spoiler)[ I love all the Arya chapters! She's one of my favourite characters in this, I love how fierce and wild and adventurous she is. I especially absolutely love her relationship with her father. Ned is so sweet to his children. I did not expect him to let her keep the sword, let alone hire a dance master!! Seriously dad goals.

I like Bran and this was a decent chapter but I wonder what he thinks he saw/heard? Has he told the others about it? It looks like it, from the way maester Luwim spoke up quickly in his defense. But maybe he was just trying to protect him from these questions. (hide spoiler)] what do you guys think about (view spoiler)[ the vision Bran had while he was in a coma? The one where he saw everyone..Arya holding secrets, Sansa crying, Ned.

All those things did actually happen, as we learn eventually. What was the crow, in the dream? Does Bran's consciousness have anything to do with his wolf? 😶

Aaaaand why did Grey Wind and Shaggydog attack Tyrion? He always seems so nervous around the wolves. Is he hiding something? This is all really suspicious...the unexpected gift, too (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Basically I'm really hating Cercei (for obvious reasons), Catelyn (so your husband had a child with another woman take it out on your husband not Jon, it's not his fault!!!) the King (weak and boorish) and I'm disliking Sansa (can't hate her because she is only 11 years old after all).

My favourite by far is Daenary's. Its annoying that she has the fewest chapters. I also really like Tyrion. He's so snarky. Got to love it. Jon and Arya are both high on the list of favourites as well. (hide spoiler)]

I hate Cersei too, but (view spoiler)[gotta admire her nerve. She seems to always get what she wants, and while Robert humiliates her, tells her off, scolds her, he never actually straight up disobeys her. See how the Lannsiters always surround themselves with who's most powerful people at the time? Never take the throne, but also have some control over the ruler. Constantly whispering in their ear. I think the Lannsiters' sigil should've been a green snake, not a lion 😂 it suits them more. Will match their eyes too! (hide spoiler)]

My wild theory is that (view spoiler)[ the king's kids are not even his own. All blonde and green-eyed.( Isn't darker hair gene more dominant than light hair's? Though that's certainly not what happened with Ned's most kids.) Could the children actaully be Jaime's and king doesn't know it? The scene with Bran couldn't have been the first time those twins had sex.

And I didn't know the king's ancestory to begin with. He might've had blonde ancestors...so he may have contributed a recessive gene. Idk. Very low chance of that happening with all the kids, though, if at all.

I really disliked reading her pov first, because, well, I dislike her, but there is something really cool about those chapters, too - in the way how strongly I feel when I read them. I am experiencing actual anger and actual strong disliking for her. It's a sign of good writing, I suppose. But one of my favourite chapters- the Hand's tourney (you know, where they jousted) was from her perspective and I wasn't complaining much!

So I finished this yesterday. It was intense, to say the least. I'm still not over my emotions yet.

I had hoped (view spoiler)[ we would get to see Bran contemplate what he saw, with the Lannsiter twins, though I get he's scared and traumatised so he may be forcing back the memory for a while...

I have a feeling Robb will die in the next battle.

And I NEED to know where Arya is. That open ending to her chapter was downright cruel. I hope she's alive. She should be, but I don't trust Martin . . .

Daenerys scene was great, and she didn't even burn in the flames! And how the Dothraki knelt then. The first ever woman with bloodriders. She's already doing the revolutionary. (Also the Mormont warrior girls in the battle at Blue Fork and then Riverrun). So cool.
Though the dragons suckling on the milk was weird. Do dragons drink milk? Hmm.

I do hope they kill off Jaime after Sansa escapes somehow. But I have a feeling she won't. I really want Jaime dead.

I am sooo excited about what Renly would do! (And Tyrion in king's landing!! And Jon off to exploring beyond the Wall!) Nothing very good, but still. I find him quite an exciting person. And where the hell is Stannis!! He's messing everything up with his absence

Ok, I've procrastinated talking about Ned long enough. The pain is still fresh, though.

It's really unfair. I hope Joffery dies an ugly death. He's so stupid and delusional. I have a newfound respect for Sansa, who was trying to smile even through the abuse.
Anyways, so not only did they force Ned to lie and declare himself a traitor, they killed him anyway. He died a traitor in everyone's eyes. AND with the secret Jon Arryn died for. Who will know now? Will it matter? Can Bran somehow figure out the truth at some point, when it still matters? I hope so. (hide spoiler)]

So as you can see, I'm really deeply invested in the story and need to get the next book ASAP.
