Story about a boy who is an expert on butterflies and is sent to help someone of royalty (a queen?) because of his knowledge of butterflies. (spoilers?) [s]

The story starts out with a boy and his father; his father knows a lot about butterflies (I think he may have had a butterfly house).
Then something happens, and the son watches his father get killed in his office. The killer was missing an eye.
Some time passes, and someone sends out for the boy since he gained knowledge from his father about butterflies.
Someone of royalty (a queen or something?) sent out for the boy because they were having a special ball, or something, and she needed to know about types of butterflies and such.
So the kid goes to the place (a palace, castle, or mansion?) and helps out.
Turns out they needed him to tell them about the types of butterflies, because the queen(?) was using the butterflies to make a dress.
Also, it turns out that the man who killed his father was the one who was sent out to find the boy. That man was now rich, and he hung out with people of royalty, and he had an expensive glass eye for each day of the week.

The book takes place sometime in the past, since they sent out to look for the boy, and picked him up in a carriage.

The cover was red, and it might've had a fake eye, or a butterfly, or something of that sort. I had thought that the title was something like "The Golden Eye" or "The Glass Eye" or something like that, but I don't really remember...
