SOLVED. Book about ordeals given on playing cards [s]

read this book in high school and trying to remember the name.
read it in 2015 or 2016, it was about this guy (Ed i think) getting these names on playing cards and for each person he had to help them. He was a taxi driver even though he was legally a year too young for the job (his friend helped fake an id for the job). pretty sure it was set in Brisbane, Aus.

Really liked the book, would recommend it if i can name it
