MartinInAMask | 15 comments I wanted to post this purely out of curiosity. I can usually read one to two books a week. I am really curious where you all fall on the scale!

Harley Bennett | 116 comments It depends on the books; length and pace play a factor. Four children's books in a week happens occasionally. But, the average is about two. When I factor in an adult book (slower pace, longer book), it can be one or two.

message 3: by Jaylyn (new)

Jaylyn (jaylynya101) I can do up to three with any type of books but that might be really pushing it.

Leone Anderson (lcanderson) | 63 comments It varies, depending on the demands on my time. One to three middle grades a week, but mixed with ongoing reading of adult books (I belong to two once-a-month adult book clubs).

Yep, it definitely depends on the week.

Since my reading goal this year is 200 books, that works out to 4 books a week. But right now, I'm participating in #BookADayMay ... so I'm currently in voracious reader mode. : )

I've always felt that there is no way to accurately count books per week. With all the different numbers of pages, font sizes, formats such as graphic novels or audiobooks, and even the density of print on each page all make it impossible! I go ahead and do the challenge with goodreads each year, but I can't really compare it to other people's numbers. If I worry too much about numbers of books, I'm afraid I might neglect the bigger, more challenging tomes on my to-read list!

Hey, time is a huge factor, on a week with not as much stuff going on I can do 2 to 3 books a week(the average being 300 or so pages) while on a busy week it can be sometimes one to two.

I also try not to focus on numbers most of the time because then it makes the reading feel more rushed than if your reading at your own pace, then it feels more leisurely. One bad thing about being a reviewer is, sometimes you feel like you have to read a bunch of books to provide new reviews.

A book a day, how do you pull that off lol. I do agree with it mainly depending on the week and also my mood and enthusiasm towards the book.

Catherine | 78 comments It is such a variable answer. Since I teach reading, I read many books in the course of my work. Right now, most are 32 page picture books. I may read 4 or 5 a week, sometimes more, in pursuit of a special "something." Professional development books can really slow me down. I might go several months without reading an adult fiction book, then read several in a summer. Still, I love middle grades books for their ability to address interesting topics without having so much weight that I lose sleep. I think a book a day is always in the back of my mind, but I have not achieved that in a calendar year yet. I entirely hope to read 180 books with my elementary school students in 180 days of school before I retire. Not going to make it this year. Maybe next year.

I enjoy gearing up for short-burst challenges. (It's not like I read at this rate all year round!) And it's not really that hard to keep up when reading middle grade, since many titles can be read in a single sitting (2-3 hours).

There's also the option to listen to books while I putter around the house. (So I usually have two books going at the same time.) And if I'm reading a longer (upper middle grade) title that takes a couple of days to finish, I can sneak in a graphic novel to meet the daily requirement.

Join in!

Jenny needs cozy | 13 comments Books usually take me 10 days to read.

Jeannie Chambers (jeanniechambers) | 10 comments I’m sort of a slow reader. It takes me about 6-10 days to read and adult novel. Of course, it depends on what time of year, snow days, vacation days, etc.
I generally only read ‘for fun’ before bed unless I can steal more time from my day.

message 14: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks | 380 comments For me, the amount varies and depends on the types of books I am reading. I often read something like fifteen books a week, but that is a combination of picture books, middle grade books and adult books (including non fiction, classic literature etc.). And I certainly read more picture books in those fifteen book weeks than MG or adult.

message 15: by Manybooks (new)

Manybooks | 380 comments And for me it also depends if I am in what I would call a reading binge type of mood, where I read without stopping. Yesterday, for example, I read three standard middle grade novels (each at over 250 pages in length) and one what I would call young adult novella (144 pages in length). And I do not do this all that often, as it tends to bug people as during my reading binges, I am often not all that easy to talk with etc.

I love reading binges. Just get some Chocolate Milk and a good snack and go to town on those pages!

I love them too, but when I really binge, I forget to eat.

In a normal year, I seem to read about 3 books a week, with maybe 1/4 of them audio books and a third to half middle grade.

This year, I'm taking about 2 weeks per book. Not the way I like to read. If I could read in the car, I'd be getting through a lot more, but I get carsick. Sometimes we do audio books in the car.

message 19: by Raquelle (new)

Raquelle Element (elementray932) | 28 comments So right now I'm just reading manga and comic books because I'm not a big fan of YA and that's what my school mostly has to offer so 10 books a week. I take out two books every weekday and return them the next day.

message 20: by Camille (new)

Camille Caliman (camillecalimanauthor) Rue2 & Ray, that sounds exactly like me when I was in middle school! I've never really been into YA books. I'm just now getting used to reading manga online because I've always read the physical copies. I remember reading Millennium Snow, St. Dragon Girl, etc. like crazy.
