I read this between 1999-02 in high school. It was probably less than 10 years old at the time. The book was by an LDS author, a contemporary romantic fiction. I always thought it was byAnita Stansfield or Nancy Campbell Allen but I've read through their books' summaries and none are sounding right. The story was about a woman who is visited by a man who says they were meant to be together but he was born in the wrong year due to a typo and died years before. He had worked as a chef in a war and died choking on a chicken bone. It's definitely Angels Don't Knock! by Dan Yates.

The angel's name is Jason, I think the girl is Sam, and the angel who made the typo is Gus. He typed 1948 instead of 1984. It's called "Angels Don't Knock" because Sam is always getting after Jason for just waltzing into her apartment, and he's put out because it's not like he can knock or anything.
