In their attempts to find Nate, Tessa and Charlotte visit his employer, Mortmain and he names de Quincey as the Magister. Did you have any feeling at the time that Mortmain was lying?

I didn't because de Quincey being the Magister made sense to me.

I really didn’t. Bought his supposed fear of de Quincey hook, line and sinker. He had me fooled for quite a while.

I'm halfway into the third book right now so it's kind of hard for me to remember exactly what I was thinking during this part of the first book. I did believe him him that de Quincey was the bad guy but I was a little suspicious of his motives.
