Katherine | 6 comments I'm looking for the title of a literary novel. I think it was written in the 21st century, possibly by a Canadian author.

The novel is about an accidental shooting, told from the point of view of the shooter and the victim.

SPOILERS AHEAD

The shooter is a teenager. His friend works at a store, and they decide to rob the safe. To cover up that it's an inside job, they decide to shoot the wall of the store and claim that an armed robber stole the money. However, they accidentally shoot a customer instead. The shooter spends a short amount of time in jail. He eventually makes friends with the victim's daughter.

The victim is a middle-aged woman. She is seriously injured during the botched robbery and spends a long time in the hospital. While she is in the hospital, she thinks a lot about her life, especially her failed first marriage. Her marriage ended because her husband was accused of groping several teenagers. The victim is remarried and has two adult children. I believe at the end of the novel, the victim is still in a wheelchair.

I attended a reading that this author gave in Vancouver, Canada. The reading was some time between 2006 and 2013, and I believe that the book was probably published around that time period.

Thanks for your help!
