Heidi | 5 comments The book title and author escapes me. It is a children's picture/story book for the age group of about 6 to 9, perhaps 10. Watercolor paintings of little girls living in a city. Brownstone type apartments. The rock was about the size of a hand and multicolored. As I'm typing the story had to do with sharing and friendship. In the 60's or 70's, I had a book that was destroyed. Two friends, urban setting and a colorful rock. It was a simple, sweet story and the rock was the focal point. Nothing sinister, scary, romantic about this book. More of a book with a moral. I have tried but cannot remember anymore details. If someone remembers the title, I appreciate and thank you, if not, it was worth a try. If anymore details come to me, I will post them.

drowningmermaid | 130 comments Hmm. Sounds a bit like "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble" from 1970.

Rock central. There's a scene with two people picnicking at the rock. I wouldn't describe it as a terribly sweet story, though.

Michele | 2488 comments Was this a little rock like you hold in your hand, or a giant rock like the kids could sit on?

Heidi | 5 comments The rock was the size of a hand. Two little girls, about 8 years old living in the city, brownstone type apartments. If I'm not mistaken, it had something to do with sharing and friendship. Childs story/picture book, nothing sinister, romantic, scary.

Heidi | 5 comments I'm new to this site, so forgive me if my posts are not as expected, still learning.

Michele | 2488 comments Heidi, you might want to edit the subject line of your original post to include a few more keywords (e.g. "picture book rock friendship watercolor illustrations"). This might get more views from people familiar with that subset of books.

Heidi | 5 comments YES!!!!! Thank you so, so much Sherri! I had the one with a blue hard cover, "A Whitman Small World Library Book", 1966. It was ruined in my basement and I was so upset. Now I have to see if I could find it at a reasonable price. Again Sherri, thank you so much! :)
