I read this book when I was in my teens (approximately several hundred years ago now, it feels)... However I've not been able to remember either Author nor book title. The main elements of which I can layout below with the hope that someone can come to my aid and tell me what I'd read and immensely enjoyed so I may do so once again : )
So it starts off with a guy, an assassin whose just (or recently) killed someone. He has the ability to absorb the personalities / souls / essence of the person he's killed. The last person he absorbed had been invited to a meeting of 13 champions by some intergalactic business mogul. This particular business dude had, roughly 1500 years previously, made a deal with the devil to always be successful in business. The contract he had made had a 'get out clause' in it stating that if he were to find the holy grail before the contract period was up, he was released from his contractual duty. So this guy decides to go along ... Memory is a bit vague from this point but I know he has a ship called 'Angel' and he seeks assistance from some dude on a planet where they do groovy drugs; he remembers certain skills (or spells) through the use of mnemonics with his fingers... And THATS pretty much it. If anyone comes across this post and recognises the book... Please let me know : )
