UNSOLVED: One specific book > Fantasy late 70's early 80's main character could telepathically control birds Wizards used power stones

John Michael | 7 comments Not series but there were follow up books set in the same universe . one other clue is there was another race loosely based on elves they could reshape and draw energy from trees. A follow up book had a half human half "elf" woman as the main character.


Bryn (Plus Others) (brynplusplus) | 186 comments Hawkmistress!? She controls birds, the people with psychic powers (who in the time period of the book are effectively wizards) use starstones which are magical blue gems. Lots of books in the same world, and the Chieri aliens are basically elves.

John Michael | 7 comments Thank you but no sorry for sure between 1976 and 1984. not one of Bradley books this was a not well know author or series. probably only went through one printing . main character was male in the first book Fantasy for sure no aliens only one planet.

John Michael | 7 comments Trying this again the main character male was an orphan foundling could control birds telepathically and ended up dueling a rival apprentice mage in the opposing kingdom who turned out to be his brother . cover art showed a young man with two gryfalcons
