Matthias Stephan | 169 comments I read this for ATY19, #40 (a book I stumbled upon). It is billed as a collection of speculative fiction (based, seemingly, on Joanna Russ's having won Hugo and Nebula awards for some excellent sci-fi and other speculative fiction. Some of the collection is that (with some quite excellent stories) and others are more about women's writing or art, or other aspects of experience (not always 'feminist' and not always about 'women'). She defies the traditional categories (quite deliberately) and does so brilliantly. While I think some of her novels are better, and some of the 'stories' in this collection are mere sketchs or prompts fleshed out partially, the collection as a whole is thought-provoking, compelling, and important.
